Chapter 29

Leah sat eagerly awaiting Caleb’s return. He’d sent word that he was on his way back from the compound and would meet her at the store.

Amber noticed Leah fidgeting at the main counter as she stared at the front door, nervous about Caleb’s return.

“Caleb should be here any minute now,” said Amber who had gotten word from Seth that they’d left the compound almost an hour ago.

“I’ve missed him so much. It’s crazy how you can get so used to someone always being by your side and when they’re away it feels as if you’ve lost a part of yourself.” Leah blushed as she realized what she’d just said. She hoped that her actions hadn’t given away her and Caleb’s secret too soon.

“I’ve missed him too, to be honest. I’ve gotten used to seeing his mischievous face around at the store.” Amber smiled at Leah, seeing straight through her secret with Caleb for she had seen how close they’d become. How they looked at each other.
