Chapter 3

“Why did you kick her out like that?” Ryan, Alex cousin asked. He was in Russia because he heard Alex was preparing for a project and thought to check up on him.

Alex looked up from the files he was scanning through. “I don’t want someone like her to be my personal assistant and beside Laura, my former assistant is on a business trip. She’s not dead. She’ll be back soon”

Ryan heaved a heavy sigh. “I know. Just give her the job”

“Why?”Alex questioned irked. “Why are you so fixated on her getting the job. If you so badly want her around, then take her for yourself “

“She has a degree in electrical engineering. She’s exactly what your company needs. Hire her and trust me, you’ll not regret this”.

Alex heaved a heavy sigh as he got up abruptly from his chair, flinged the door wide opened as rushed out of his office to catch up with Maya before she walked through the front door of the company.

He hated to admit it but Ryan did have a point. “Where are you going on your first day of work?” He asked sternly. “Do you want your loose your job? Is it that easy to get one?”

Maya stared at him, conused. “My job?but earlier you said-“

Alex squeezed his face, annoyed. “Do you still not get it?”. Maya’s eyes widened as she finally got a wind of what he was saying.

Alex let go off her hand as if he was disgusted, wiping his hands thoroughly and pocketing them in his jeans. “Now follow me. You have work to do”

Maya trudged along happily behind Alex as she followed him to his office. He pointed at a small desk just opposite his. “That’s your workplace”

Alex moved to sit on his rolling chair as he pushed a stack of documents towards Maya. “These are details of what our clients wishes to represent or create, go through all of them and rewrite them and get it done in three hours”

Mays eyes bulged. There was over 50 stacks of documents. Was she to go through all and rewrite them all alone? And most especially, she was to get it done in three hours? That was the most absurd thing she’d ever heard.

“Why are you still standing there? Do you have enough time to kill?”. Alex mocked looking up at her with a grin on his face.

“But three hours-“

“If you don’t want to do the work, then you can just quit. You are a Ori at quiting jobs, are you not? “. Alex chimed in knowing fully well thar Maya didn’t have any other choice but to do as he’d asked.

Mays tried her best to suppress her anger as she approached his desk, taking the stacks of documents and moving off to her desk to work on the task he’d assigned to her.

But the task had turned into hell rather quickly. No sooner had she started scanning through the documents than Alex called her to get him a cup of coffee.

She quickly rushed out of his office to a nearby coffee shop, brought him the preference he’d asked for and headed back to the office with the coffee in hand.

As Alex took the coffee from her hands, he gagged upon tasting it. “What is this?”.

“The coffee you’d requested for, sir”

Alex threw the plastic cup of coffee across his office. “Again. It isn’t coffee if it tastes cold. Run twice as fast this time”

Balling her fist ever so tightly, Maya sucked it in as she ran out of his office once more, heading to the vcofee shop.

After she’d placed the order, she’d hurried up to Alex office unconsciously spilling the content of the coffee almost everywhere and by the time she’d placed the plastic cup infront of Alex, the cuo was empty. “Why did you bother coming back empty handed? Don’t you know that you are meant to do it again?”

“Sir, but-“

“Again”. Alex dragged out slowly leaving no room for compromise. With her final trial, she got back to his office with the coffee still hot and filled with it’s contents.

Alex took a sip of sip of the coffee, nodded his head pleased before tossing it in the trash.

“What is wrong with it now?” Maya asked through gritted teeth.

“Nothing. I just wasn’t craving coffee anymore “. He turned his attention back to his files in his hands as Maya angrily stormed off to her desk to continue her work.

You need this job, Maya. She chided herself as she threw herself back inti work, scanning through the document he’d given her.

Fortunately, Maya had found her work quite intriguing. After reading the documents, she took her time to carefully rewrite them. Although, She didn’t know why Alex had asked her to rewrite the documents because she didn’t see anyi wrong with it.

Could it be that he’d actually wanted her to change some clients invention?. She did think that some clients could have asked for better inventions/ creations than what they’d requested though but she shook her head, dissing that thought.

She submitted the rewritten documents at Alex desk with a loud bang on his desk, causing him to focus his attention on her. “Exactly 2hours 45 minutes.”. She said flashing him a sweet smile. “Now if you excuse me, I’m going to grab a cup of coffee”.

Maya was about to walk out his office door when she halted and turned around to face him. “Ah. I do think client 46 and client 3 could change their inventionsthough”. With that said, she walked out of his office in a giddy mood than earlier as she headed to the coffee shop.

As she placed her order and patiently waited for it, a main in his mid twenties, black curly hair flashed her a smile. “You must really love coffee, you are here again”.

She titled her head, confused . She was sure she didn’t know this man yet he was speaking with her casually as if he knew her. “I’m Micheal, I also work for Mr Wolfs”. He introduced.

Maya nodded her head as realization washed over her. “Ah, I see. I’m Maya”.

“This is the fourth time I’m seeing you come here today, you must really like the coffee here.”.

“Those other times the coffee were not for me but for the boss”

“I understand. Working for Mr wolf is not easy”

Maya chuckled. “You can say that again “. Maya’s coffee was ready in no time as she took it and bid her farewell to Micheal, ready to part ways but he’d suggested they had back to the office together.

“Since you are new here, do let me know if you need help with anything. “

“I will”. As they walked through the front door of the company, stepping in they saw a woman in her thirties.

She exuded charisma and confidence.

She was dressed in a white suit and her lips were heavy laded with deep red lipgloss. Her short hair added to her intimidating looks making her resmeble a typical business woman .

Maya could see the woman heading towards Alex office. “Who is she?” She asked Micheal.

Micheal took in deep breaths as if he was about to break in a bad news. “Kylin Jenner. Take my advice and don’t go into the office for a while”

“Okay”. She replied as she waved at Micheal finally parting ways. Even though she was new, Maya could tell that Kylin Jenner was just trouble in bold letters.
