Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Friday had finally come. I was at my locker packing up my books to take home for the weekend when Alyssa came skipping down the hallway.

“Uhm hello, did you really think you could keep it a secret?” Alyssa asked.

“What on earth are you talking about” I asked her with a quizzical look.

“I heard you’re going to have Alpha Leo and his fine as hell son staying at your house”, Alyssa squealed with excitement

“Uh, yea the council asked dad if we could host them for Elder Wynn’s ceremony. With dad working a lot with the pack doctor lately I guess they thought it was a good idea. Sorry I didn’t realize it would be such a big deal to you” I said to her, slamming my locker shut.

“I’ve heard he’s hot as hell. I wouldn’t mind getting me a piece of that”, Alyssa reiterated as she bit her lower lip.

I rolled my eyes at her. I guess her and Jace broke up, yet again.

“Well I doubt I’ll see him at all I have a few shifts at the bakery this weekend and a ton of homework so…”

Alyssa rolled her eyes. “Girl can you just live a little for once! You’re going to have the hottest bachelor around staying in your house for the weekend. You know he hasn’t found his mate yet so he’s fair game”

“Yea yea whatever. Do you even know anything about him?” I asked her.

To be honest I didn’t even know Alpha Leo’s son’s name.

“Let’s see I hear his name is Alex, he’s 6”3, pure muscle, dark hair, green eyes, and dreamy” She sighed.

“Oh c’mon you can’t have learned that much about him already”

“Girl, do you even know me?” She smiled.

I know at one point the council got together and they thought about combining our schools to make one large high school, but some of the elders shot down the idea, not wanting to risk mixing our kind together with the wolves. It was ok having a treaty with them, but even think of mating with them and the elders would have your head. The council was very strict on pure bred magic. They did not like outsiders and did not like when people mixed blood. Eventually though we’d have to expand right? I mean we can’t be marrying our cousins!

It was my hope when the current elders all stepped down and people like my brother took their place that things around here would start to change.

I never quite understood what the big deal was. We were all magical beings. It was very hard for us to find someone of our own kind. Some of us after high school travel to other covens around the world in search of someone, but you needed permission from the council to leave town, and it was typically only ever granted to the original founding families of the town. I wish witches could find their mate the way werewolves do. Have someone pre-destined for you that you recognize as your soul mate on your 18th birthday. It sounds so easy, but I guess you have to find the person first. What if you didn’t like them? Then what?

Hm. Well I guess that’s something I’ll never have to worry about. Witches don’t get a chosen mate, we get to find the loves of our lives the old fashion way, not that there’s a whole lot to chose from in this town.
