Chapter 13 What A Difficult Woman

A pale Claire stared at the car before her, having almost been hit by it. There was barely the distance of a fist between her knees and the car.

If the driver hadn’t braked in time, she would probably have been sent flying from the impact.

The driver got out of the car in anger and walked up to her. “Are you insane?!”

It wasn’t that she was; it was just that she had rushed out without thinking it through in her urgent state. Still reeling from the shock, Claire gulped, forced a smile, and apologized, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to. I just wanted to…”

She trailed off and peered inside the car. She could see a figure in the back seat, but she couldn’t see the person’s face. And so, turning back to the driver, she earnestly said, “I want to speak to Mr. Marquez.”

“Mr. Marquez?” the driver frowned, looking conflicted.

“That’s right. Could I please trouble you to help me tell him that?” Claire looked imploringly at him.
