CHAPTER ONE

CAMILLA'S POV

The rain was pouring heavily. I rode my bike slowly, making my way home.

I had gone for a short ride a few hours ago when the weather was still good, but the rain had crept up on me.

I had to get back home to make dinner, so I had no choice but to make the dangerous journey home in the pouring rain.

I rode my bike slowly while trying my best to keep my eyes focused on the road.

I was just a few miles away from my home when I hit something. Or rather, someone.

My heart sank to my stomach as I climbed down from my bike.

I was shaking with fear as I prayed for the person I hit to be okay.

I walked over to the person lying on the floor, and I was shocked to see a small body lying on the floor. It looked like a child.

I was even more scared now.

I knelt on the floor as I helped the child stand up.

I carried the child in my arms, thinking that the child had fainted.

Just then, the child opened her eyes. I was shocked at how blue her eyes were. It was almost as blue as mine.

"Are you okay?" I asked the young girl, who was shivering in my arms.

Her clothes were soaked, and she was wet and cold. I could tell that she had been walking in the rain for a long time.

Where were her parents?

"Hello. Are you okay? Where are your  parents?"I asked again when the kid did not say anything.

Was she too shocked to speak?

"You need to tell me where your parents are so I can get you back to them!" I said to the kid.

I no longer cared about my dinner. I just wanted to make sure this kid was fine. Somehow, I felt a sense of responsibility towards her. I have to keep her safe.

Still, the kid did not say anything. I looked up. The rain was increasing. Both of us could not continue to stay out here in the rain.

"I am going to take you back to my house and get you all warmed up. Then, you can

tell me who your parents are and where we can find them, okay?" I asked the kid.

She still didn't say anything. I sighed. "Okay. I'm going to take that as a yes. Let's get you home first," I said to the kid.

I stood up with the girl in my arms. Suddenly, the kid threw her arms around me and hugged me tight.

At that moment, I felt a connection to the kid. It was strange since I had never met this kid before, but something in me just wanted to keep her safe.

......

Two hours later, the kid and I were all dried up. I gave the girl one of my shirts that turned into a gown on her small body.

"What happened to you? Where are your parents, and why were you in the rain alone?" I asked the kid again.

I didn't hold much hope that she would answer me. Since she had not said anything the first time, I sighed.

"I need to know who your parents are so that I can take you home. Don't you want to get back to your mom and dad? Don't you miss your mommy?" I asked the kid.

The kid took my hand just then and started to write on my palm with her fingers.

I was confused for a second before I realised what was going on. The kid could not talk!

That was why she never answered any of my questions! I felt sorry for the kid! How can such a beautiful girl not be able to talk?

I focused on what she was writing on her finger. It was just two words.

"No"

"No? You don't miss your mommy?" I asked her.

The kid shook her head. I sighed. I wanted to ask questions, but I didn't want to pressure a kid who could not speak.

"Okay. Here's what we are going to do. I am sure your parents must be losing their minds looking for you. I would have taken you to look for your parents, but I don't know where to find them, and it's raining heavily. We can't go looking in the rain, so you'll have to spend the night here with me. Is that okay with you?" I asked the kid.

The kid nodded her head and smiled happily. It was clear that she liked this suggestion.

I smiled too at the kid. "Okay. I will make dinner for the both of us, and when we've had dinner, we are going to have fun, okay? There is this game I used to play with my mom. Do you want to play it with me?" I said to her. It was a game I liked when I was young. I had a feeling she would like it too.

She nodded her head excitedly again. I smiled. I could not remember the last time I was so happy to spend time with someone. And it was a kid.

....

About an hour later, we had both eaten dinner.

Both of us sat on the floor as we played a game.

The kid looked like she was having a lot of fun because she was more cheerful than before.

Suddenly, the kid looked up at me and smiled at me. I was stunned by her smile. I felt as if I had seen this smile somewhere else before, but I could not remember where.

Anyway, I felt happy to spend time with the kid, and I was already bonding slowly with her.

I could not help but think of the next day when I would have to pass the kid over to her real parents. I was sure going to miss her.

.....

I was still in bed when I heard someone pounding on my door.

I opened my eyes groggily. I usually don't have visitors, so I wondered who could be there.

I looked over at the kid I brought home yesterday. She was still sleeping peacefully.

I walked over to her door and opened it. To my greatest surprise, my entire house was now surrounded by bodyguards! Royal bodyguards!

I gasped when I saw them. "Who....who are you?" I asked in fear.

Just then, a man walked out from behind the bodyguards and stood in front of me.

"I know that you have my daughter. Where is she?" He asked me.
