You break me I break you too.

*Flashback*

"It's Kyla right?"

Kayla ignored the strong urge to roll her eyes. She laid back on the couch to get herself comfortable then took a deep breath, she needed to prepare herself for the hurricane that was looming.

The older lady knew exactly who she was, they all did. It wasn't the first time they were meeting her, nor was it the third.

"It's actually Kayla, but you can call me Mrs. Miller."

If she wanted to be petty she could've just said.

She'd thought she'd find that easier since she too was Mrs. Miller. The only difference with them was that Kayla was the real Mrs. Miller, not the one who'd kept the name because of the status that came with it.

She ignored the looks she'd felt on her form from all directions, they clearly didn't like her comment. She knew they were trying to intimidate her, she needn't let that happen.

"Oh yes, you're the one who's younger than all his kids."

You could tell by the wide smirk on her face that she was extremely proud of her remark. They did like to bring up the age thing, as if it made a difference, it didn't. They knew very well he was with her for more than just her age. She was the girl who made him change his mind. She was the girl who restored his faith in love.

But Sandra Miller was a salty woman. She was also one of the infamous Aaron Miller's ex-wives, the last one. The one who could never accept that he finally got over her after all that she'd put him through. She thought she'd had him wrapped around her finger. She was largely mistaken.

Aaron surprised her with a divorce when she'd least expected it. Kayla had heard too many stories about how broken she'd been. She couldn't accept it so she'd gone and made a scene about it multiple times. And the fact that she'd signed a prenup certainly didn't make that any easier for her, Sandra loved the lifestyle of the rich and famous. But she got nothing from the highly publicized divorce.

So her bitterness didn't at all surprise Kayla. She'd been used to it at that point, although it didn't stop it from being annoying.

That was why she'd then given her a warm smile. Then,

"Yes, the light at the end of the long and bumpy tunnel."

The long and bumpy tunnel she, as well as the other ex-wives put him through.

Kayla only used that phrase because that was how Aaron described their love. He'd told them about how with her it just felt different and he just knew it was forever. It should hardly be a surprise that Sandra didn't like that very much. She was livid. What did the other girl have that she didn't?

"Oh, dear. That's what he said about all of us. Don't tell me you're that naïve."

The snarky comment was followed by a light chuckle that had Kayla feeling even more irritated. Mostly because she'd been overthinking a bit about that.

Even though Kayla didn't at all doubt that her husband loved her, sometimes she'd wondered if he would one day just wake up and decide to divorce her, like he did with the others. That one day he would get bored and decide to discard of her too. Yes he raved about her and their bond but she was sure he did the same with his ex-wives when he was with them.

So she hated how deeply Sandra's comment cut. But she was never going to show her that so,

"Don't act like he's ever looked at you like he looks at me."

Pretty much everyone who knew about Kayla and Aaron's marriage would tell you that it's different from the others he'd had. They all talked about how Kayla was the one for him, no doubt.

It was in the way they looked at each other, like there was nothing better in life than having one another.

The man remained single for many years before remarrying. This was after he'd promised himself he was never going down that path again. It just took the right woman to have him change his mind. Aaron was after all known for his sternness and unchanging ways.

Judging by the pain behind Sandra's eyes, Kayla just knew she felt her comment, it stung.

She then felt herself forming a frown. That was not the person that she was, at all. She was not malicious, nor was she petty and she'd hated how Sandra always ensued that out of her. She'd used to keep quiet at first thinking it was going to go away but it never did, it seemingly got worse instead. Kayla didn't want to be her playground anymore and she'd wanted to stand up for herself, so she did.

But never did she plan on hurting the other girl's feelings while she was at it. That was why,

"I'm sorry Sandra, I didn't mean that." She'd heard herself apologize.

Just because someone was unpleasant to her didn't mean she had to be the same. She needn't at all stoop to their level and she was always so quick to realize that and fix it before it was too late.

"I guess we're not that different after all dear Kyla, are we?"

Kayla knew exactly what she was doing. She fed on other people's misery and humiliation and she'd take any opportunity to make her feel less than what she was. But Kayla knew better. So,

"You're right, I'm horrible. Sorry again." She'd responded with a warm smile before standing up to go look for her husband.

"Don't let her get to you." She'd heard a voice say as she made her way outside. She then turned around and said,

"Thank you." To the kind lady who was the only person different from everyone else there.

"How do you do it? How do you stand them?"

Kayla had always wondered why Britney stuck around even though she was now married and had her own family. Sandra, Lucy, and Amanda were an unpleasant bunch to be around, not just for her but for everyone. The only reason Kayla had to stand them was because her husband always insisted,

"They'll warm up to you." He'd always said to her. But it had now been too long and they were still very cold with her.

"They're honestly not too bad. Behind those really rock-solid exteriors are some really kind-hearted souls. I know it's hard to believe. But I stick around because they're family, yes they're not the kindest people out there but family is about accepting each other with all our imperfections." She'd said surprising the other girl.

Kayla disagreed. Her family couldn't accept her for simply choosing to love someone who wasn't of the "right age". They'd chosen to disown her after they'd forced her to break up with him multiple times. When she didn't they'd told her to leave and never come back.

But she knew Britney was a kind person so her response hardly surprised her. But that didn't mean she had to agree with her. So,

"Have you seen my husband?" She'd chosen to ask. She needed to get out of there.

"Oh yes, he's out back grilling with the rest of the guys."

Kayla thanked her with a smile and then made her way there.

Her husband was a very social person, unlike her. She'd always felt bad that she wanted to leave after only a few interactions but she'd hated that her husband always insisted she tagged along with him. If he wanted to go it was fine but why did she need to be there with him? She was fine with just staying at home. Ok, maybe she wasn't really fine but she preferred that over going with him and having to endure his ex-wives' bullying.

"Hey baby girl," was what the older boy had said as she made her way to him. She felt her heart melt at the sound. He called her that all the time but it still made her smile every time she'd heard it.

She smiled at the gentlemen who stood with him as they smiled back at her then went to kiss her husband.

She'd playfully rolled her eyes when she'd heard them making 'oooh' sounds at their kiss then let her husband take her hand to lead them outside. That was after they'd said their goodbyes to everyone of course. Aaron always knew when his wife wanted to leave. He wasn't necessarily happy about it but he'd respected her decision nonetheless. After all, he'd practically forced her to tag along.

"They don't like me." Kayla had said softly as she sat comfortably on the car seat. She knew her husband hated it when she'd brought that up but she needed him to understand how much she despised going there.

"All they do is pick on me."

"Yeah, they do that. That doesn't mean they hate you." He was getting irritated, she could tell.

"Well, I don't like it. I can't stand it!" Her voice was getting loud but she didn't care.

"What do you want me to do? They're my family."

"Yeah well they're not mine!"

"For god's sake Kayla. Don't act like a ..."

"Don't act like a what? Huh!? Say it! Say it! "

She knew exactly what he wanted to say but she wished he could just come out and say it. She dared him to. But when,

"A child! Don't act like a damn child!"

She felt herself wishing he could take it back. Why would he say that to her knowing how it made her feel? She knew she was young, they both did. But was it necessary for him to throw it in her face like that?

Kayla sat looking outside the window as they continued on their journey home.

She'd tried really hard to not let her tears slip through her eyes. It would validate his point she'd thought. But the more she sat with him beside her, the more she felt herself getting more upset.

Until she finally let the tears go.
