Imperfect beginnings.

"Mr. Miller, I was told to bring this to you."

The young lady said as she approached the older man cautiously. He'd thrown a fit a few times at the hospital and she didn't want to become one of his victims for the day.

"Thank you so much Uhm... " He'd waited for her to tell him her name.

"Susan."

"Thank you Susan."

He'd said with a smile as he took the tray of food from her hands. He wasn't hungry but he didn't want to be rude to the poor girl, not anymore at least. He'd admittedly been a bit difficult on more than a few occasions but that was only because of the well-being of his wife. Everything needed to be done right, otherwise he would lose it. He would lose his cool.

He'd then decided to stop after realizing what he had become, Kayla wouldn't like that very much he'd thought.

Aaron could see the terror in the young girl's eyes as she nodded her head and turned around to leave.

"Susan..."

He was turning a new leaf.

It had been over 5 months since his wife had been in the coma. He'd been isolated from the world because there was nothing left in the world for him if his wife wasn't around. There was no point in living his life, she was his life.

"Yes sir?"

The terror was still there but he was now determined to let her warm up to him.

"Will you stay?"

The softness in his voice sounded so foreign even to him. He was known for shouting in the hospital.

The young girl nodded her head shyly and then had a seat not too far from the door.

"Can I tell you how we met?"

He asked now taking a moment to look at his sleeping beauty then turned around to Susan's surprised expression. He smiled and then,

"It wasn't a fairytale, not at all."

He chuckled.

"It was actually quite the opposite of that." He said returning his eyes to his wife.

-----

She was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen.

From the way her beautiful dark skin glowed against the bright red shirt that hugged her person really tight. It reminded him of how he would hold her if she were his, when she would be his.

To the shiny gloss that occupied her lips. It made him really envious because he was certain he would've done a better job taking care of the luscious pair.

She stood behind the counter like the world was her stage.

He knew that look very well. It was a look he'd seen too many times but never had the pleasure of experiencing. A look of someone who didn't know much but looked forward to a lot.

She was young, really young. Probably in her late teens

She hadn't yet seen the trauma of adulting. She was fresh.

What was wrong with him?

He had to blink a couple of times to get his mind under control and then,

"Evening,"

He couldn't help the smile that sheltered his face. He wasn't one to smile but it was out of his control. She had a hold on him. Damn it.

But all of those hopes and dreams of a steamy night with the young beaut disappeared when,

"What do you need sir? I don't have all day."

Did she not know who he was? That must've been the only explanation because if she did she wouldn't have spoken to him like that.

"Excuse you?"

The smile remained on his face but it wasn't genuine anymore. He hated rude people, he'd known too many of them growing up. He'd had a terrible childhood because of said people. And so Aaron had always told himself he wasn't going to let such people get away with their ways, not under his watch anyways. That was why,

"You are going to regret that."

He'd simply said to the girl before leaving without uttering another word.

He was going to ruin her. He needed her to experience the consequences of being rude. Yes she was young but she needed to learn.

So Aaron Miller did the worst. He made her unhireable.

Not only did he get her fired from her job, but he also made sure that no one would ever hire her for anything ever again.

-----

"It certainly wasn't a usual love story."

He'd said to the young lady who'd been smiling warmly listening to him tell her about how he'd met the girl. She'd been practically sitting on the edge of her seat wanting to know what happened next when,

"Aaron?..."

It was barely audible but they'd both heard it.

"Baby?"

Aaron felt the familiar tremble as he stared down softly at his wife's form like she would collapse if he did otherwise.

She still laid on the bed unconscious but her fingers were moving slightly. Like she was trapped and desperately needed to come out.

"Baby I'm here." He continued to say softly now letting her hold his fingers with hers like her life depended on it. Maybe it did.

Susan didn't have to be told to run and get a doctor as Aaron had his moment with his wife who seemed to be coming back to him.

It had been 5 months.

5 months of praying, 5 months of hoping, 5 months of misery.

Aaron couldn't help but smile at the timing. He wasn't one to believe much in superstitions but he couldn't help but think maybe he really needed to change his ways for her to wake up. Or maybe it was hearing him talk about how they'd met that had her fighting to come back to him. Either way, it wasn't a coincidence.

"I'm here my love," He'd heard himself say as tears started falling from his eyes and a team of doctors hurried into the room.

He was then escorted out by Susan who promised him the doctors were going to do all they could to save his wife.

So as he stood pacing in the waiting room, he knew he needn't get his hopes too high but he was simply grateful to see some kind of a progression in her state.

He just knew his wife was coming back to him. She was going to be ok.
