'Raven!'
Maddie came running towards him as he walked into the kitchen, he caught her, kissed her lips, which she pressed impetuously on his.
He could feel that her energy had regained strength.
‘Where have you been?’ she asked.
She looked at him inquiringly, ‘I couldn't feel you.’
‘I was in Scotland,’ he replied, ‘looking for a solution.’
'And?'
‘Maybe I have a solution.’
‘I don't want to lose my strength!’
‘I thought about that for a while,’ he admitted.
‘I know.’ She kissed him again and he put her down again.
‘I see a boy. He looks like you!’she said suddenly.
He looked at her in exasperation.
‘Stay out of my mind!’ he snapped at her.

‘No,’ he said emphatically. He moved his hand and blocked his thoughts.

Every morning Dean picked her up, in the company of Leo and Buddy. Then only their hands touched. Sometimes they exchanged tender looks. During the break, Dean stole a quick kiss now and then, by pulling her to a corner in the school building, behind a wall, or under the stairs. Three times a week, they rehearsed with the band in the activity center after school. Although Maddie had been shy behind the microphone at first, she soon became bolder.
