Chapter 1: Late Night Drive

"Clarke, wake up. We have to go" my father said as he took my suitcase underneath the bed.

Growing up, we had always been on the run. My father and mother have been hunted down by both of their clans since I was born. Vampires and Werewolves alike. Both clans never supported their matrimony because of a prophecy. It was said that the child they will bear, is a monster and will be the end of the vampire and werewolf race. I was that child, I am the first of my kind.

I grew up scared of what I might be, but my parents believed that I was a miracle. I was everything except a monster, that I was special, and so I believed them on most nights, more over I could never really truly put my mind into it. I was a vampire and a werewolf, I crave more blood than average due to my werewolf genes. But I get to walk in the sun without the fear of burning. Werewolves tend to shift on a full moon, I however gets to shift whenever I want.

"Clarke, in the car now." My mother instructed.

I hurriedly went into the backseat to be settled while my father put all of our things in the trunk. When he was done, he went to the front and drove. I looked at the time, it was one in the morning. It was bad to wander in the streets at this hour because today was a full moon. The other werewolves would have transitioned by now and are hunting for food.

"Where are we off to, hon?" my Mom asked my father.

"To Avebury, my family has a manor there that we can stay." He replied.

Thankfully, both of my father's parents supported them. I visit my grandparents once a year to avoid more trouble. They are very lovely folks, and being with them makes me feel at least normal. They're like regular grandparents who would scold you if you ate less of the food they prepared. Man, I sure do miss them.

Long nights tend to remind me of our first home, where I grew up. Where I had my first shift as a werewolf, where I first hunted for blood, other than that it was the most normal feeling I ever had, I was only sixteen back then. The years after were difficult, we had to change home from time to time. City after city, state after state.

When I'm with my parents, I go by as their sister in public. My dad looked like he was still in his mid-twenties, perks of being a vampire. My mom on the other hand is already in her late thirties however she still looked like the same age as my dad, and that is because when she gave birth to me, I shared my some of my blood with her. Making her immortal, without actually becoming a vampire. My blood has been a question since I was born, and it will take some time to get some answers. But fortunately, I got my parents.

"Is it safe there, Dad?"

"You don't have to worry sprout, it's home. We'll be safe."

Home, maybe it would be. But still I could never shake of this fear in my heart. At times I would think of leaving my parents because it's not safe to be with me, to be around me, to be in my orbit. I would die if anything happens to them. As our family motto says, 'family is power'. True, they're immortal, but nothing ever lasts forever, they're still vulnerable to stakes and fire and U.V bullets.

"I know you're scared Clarke, but sweetie you have us. We'll protect you no matter what." My mom says as she's trying to assure me. She held my hand and smiled.

Warmth, is such a very pleasing feeling. It takes fear out of all of us, and it feels calming almost illuminating. Maybe that is what the world needs right now. To feel warmth. To feel like you're not alone.

Now that I think about it, I've never had any friends. No, neighborhood best friends either. I distanced myself from anything there could be because I was scared. Not only for them, but for me. I am still learning what I am, what I can do, and what I could still be.

I haven't controlled my powers very well, sometimes when I let my emotions get the best of me, I destroy a lot of things and trust me, suppressing emotions when you have repulsive werewolf genetics is difficult. It comes out and makes me want to lash on everything I could possibly see. So, if either some of you pulls a prank on me, I'd say run for your life.

Just kidding.

I could totally absorb a joke or two.

After what seemed to be an eternity of sitting on the back seat with almost my butt on fire, we managed to arrive at Avebury. Would you look at the time, it's ten o'clock and I'm both exhausted and starving. I immediately went out of the car. My dad has  a daylight mark to be able to walk under the sun, and he asked a witch to enchant him with it, which is very rare to meet these days. The Isles coven has been our family's allies for years, it seems that it was a long way down memory lane with our families. Very far with history.

"Mom, Dad, I'm starving. I'm going to go to the woods really quick and have a bite."

With my stomach rumbling, I didn't wait for my parent's approval, I did manage to hear a 'be careful' with my super hearing.

I used my vampire speed to hunt for bunnies or anything that is a walking animal. Animal blood and human blood has way different taste and energy. But being a hybrid, animal blood and meat is enough to help me control myself. I would go amok if I ever do taste human blood, besides there's a treaty that we vampires have to respect, no human hunting allowed. We try to maintain peace as much as possible. That is the circle of life.

It was easy for me to see a bunny, and thanks to my powers, I was able to see a glimpse of its life. It's his last week, and he had good run for most of his life. I'm sure he probably won't mind if I do eat him. It's still harsh I know, but better than most instances. Unfortunately, one bunny is not enough for me. I continued to roam around the forest when something completely aromatic caught my attention, I knew what it was. I knew both my body and my mind longed for it.

Human blood.

I hurriedly went into the location where the scent came from, and I saw who the blood belonged. It was from a camper, his knees where scratched, probably from fiddling so much. God, the scent is making me insane, and the thirst for it is talking a toll on my sanity.

"Breath steadily and relax." My dad's voice reminded me. He may not be here but thankfully I'm still sane do to the right thing, which to my body's dismay, was to retreat.

After a few meters of running away, I encountered a bear. It terrorized locals and almost got a child killed. Well, blood for blood then. I easily tackled the bear, given that I had both vampire and werewolf strength.

Food well served.
