Chapter 7

All of the voices grew louder until they were howling inside her head. She looked into the bright blue eyes that pleaded with her. Inky blackness spread from the center consuming all color and light until they were pools of darkness covering his entire eye socket. He lurched forward grabbing the barrel of the gun and forcing it against his forehead. Zira yelped and squeezed. BANG!

Zira sat up screaming and flailing. Hands wrestled with hers making her flail more. A firm grasp locked on and forced her down.

“Zira! It’s me! It’s me, calm down. You’re okay.” The soft voice brought back all of Zira’s memories. She wasn’t in the woods. There was no cold metal in her hand. No one pleading for their life. Relief flooded through her shaking her whole body. That nightmare was behind her.

“What happened?” she looked up at Kady. The concern on her face was almost too much. Light was just beginning to break through between the black-out curtains hanging from the large window across from her bed.
