Pregnant?

AURORA RUSSET

My eyes fluttered open to the sound of the beeping monitors around me, my head felt woozy like cotton and my body felt heavy like lead.

It was like I was stuck to the bed as I couldn't move any part of my body.

Where was I?

I tried to register my surroundings but a young woman walked in just then.

She had on a uniform that I was sure I had seen several times before but couldn't place a name to at the moment, She exclaimed in surprise on seeing that I was awake.

I tried to talk but my throat was dry and parched and I couldn't get the words to come out.

The woman in her excited state ran out hurriedly before I could say anything.

Glancing around, I saw that there was a thin long pipe with a needle at the end inserted in my inner elbow.

The pipe connected to a bag with some kind of liquid placed on a stand.

There were also various wires attached to different parts of my body.

I slowly came to the realization that I was in a hospital.

Soon, the woman from earlier walked in but this time with two other people.

Another woman that was dressed like her and a young man in a white overall cloth.

I recognized now that the woman was a nurse and the young man a Doctor.

"Where am I?" I tried speaking but my voice came out croaky and barely audible but the Doctor caught it.

"You're in a hospital." He replied, giving me a small harmless smile.

"No, no I know that but why am I here? I asked frantically.

I had no recollection of coming to this place.

"Miss calm down." He said and I slowly breathed in and out to calm myself.

"Do you remember anything?" He asked.

Shutting my eyes, I tried to see if I remembered anything and after thinking for a few minutes, I gasped out "Amylase!"

"Amylase? Who's that? Is she a relative?" He asked and I shook my head no.

Amylase.

Her name had rung a bell and I could clearly remember now why she was the only person that came to mind.

She was my best friend for several years and was even regarded as my sister by people most times and we were as close as one too until I walked in on her having sex with my boyfriend Michael.

The events from that day came rushing back.

I had clocked off work and headed to Amylase house for a surprise visit.

It was something we did regularly whenever we hadn't seen each other in days.

On getting to her house, I walked in to the sight of her having sex with my boyfriend Micheal.

They were entangled on her bed completely naked and Micheal had her legs wrapped around his waist, thrusting in and out of her.

He muttered sweet nothings to her as he fucked her.

I couldn't believe my eyes.

Was this the same Micheal who never showed me any affection or treated me well in the months we had spent together.

But I was foolishly in love with him and convinced myself that he really was in love with me and would change his attitude towards me once we were married.

But my world had come crashing down and the extreme hurt and betrayal I felt in that moment superceded any other.

The last thing I remembered was walking out of her house in a daze.

"Miss are you alright?" The Doctor asked worriedly, snapping me back to reality.

"Yes, I think so." I answered, nodding slowly.

"Do you feel any pain?" He asked.

"No my head's just pounding and I can't move my body." I answered.

"That's completely normal, you were just resuscitated and the anaesthetia from the surgery must still be in effect.

"Surgery?" I gasped inwardly in surprise and turned to look at the doctor but he had turned to observe a machine on the side of my bed.

I must have heard wrongly.

"We'll be running some test to ascertain your condition, Please stay calm." He said.

He turned to the nurses in the room with us and they walked towards me to carry out their job.

Once they were done, they all headed out except for the first nurse who stayed behind and watched me.

The doctor soon came in again but this time alone and he held a report log in his hand.

"Doctor, what's the evaluation?" The nurse asked.

"According to the results of the MRI scan, she has been diagnosed with partial amnesia but overall, is in good health condition. The foetus is also in good condition too.

My ears perked up at the world foetus.

"Foetus, what foetus?" I asked completely perplexed and bewildered.

"You're seven months pregnant." The doctor said, his voice crashing down heavily on me like a huge rock and my jaw dropped open.

I hadn't realized it before but part of the reason I couldn't move my body was due to the heavy bump located in what used to be my stomach.

It was true, he wasn't lying to me.

"How did I get here?" I asked, still not understanding why I was here in this hospital.

"You were in rushed in here after an accident" He replied.

An accident?

How could that be?

Hadn't I just walked out of Amylase home?

So I hadn't heard wrongly earlier and he had really mentioned that I had undergone a surgery.

How had I gotten in an accident and what was with this pregnancy?

I couldn't even remember sleeping with anyone not to talk of getting pregnant.

Who was the father?

A series of thought spiraled in my mind.

The nurse walked out to attend to other matters, leaving the doctor and I alone in the room.

My head spun as I tried to piece the bits of information I had just heard together.

So, I had been in accident, had partial amnesia and apparently was seven months pregnant too.

"What's was going on? How was I even pregnant?." I tried thinking but still I had no recollection of the events that led me here but I most definitely knew I couldn't keep this child.

I didn't even know how it had come to be.

"Doctor please, I can't keep this child." I said, tears pooling in my eyes.

"What do you mean?" He asked in surprise.

"I don't want to birth this child." I stated again.

"Miss, you can't do that, you're too far gone and it would be risky and might cause complications. He explained.

"I don't care, please I beg of you, I can't keep this child. Look at me, I am a woman with partial amnesia, no relatives and I have no idea who the father of my child is. Neither do I have any means to take care of it. This child might even end up dying, I might as well get rid of it now. " I pleaded in tears.

"You should reconsider your decision." He replied.

"Please, please help me. I'm completely aware of what I'm saying." I sobbed.

He gazed at me with pity and sympathy and I gazed pleadingly at him.

"Okay, we can perform a surgical abortion to get the baby out without harming you. However, I have to warn you, it comes with great risk and you'll have to sign a consent form too." He advised and I nodded quickly in agreement.

"I'll sign it, I'll sign anything, just please help me." I said.

"Alright, we'll have to run some more tests again but I'll get the consent form." He sighed in resignation and turned to walk out.

I looked gratefully at his retreating back.

Once he got to the door, he turned back again.

"Miss Aurora, I have to warn you again that this process of removing the child is extremely risky." He stated again.

"I know and I'm ready." I muttered in reply and he walked out to get the consent form.

Turning on my side, I thought over everything that had happened ever since I woke up .

I was still lost in my thoughts when the door was banged open, startling me.

Three men walked in with an incredibly handsome man in the lead.

He had long silver hair and deep blue eyes that seemed to reflect the light.

His build was muscular and he was tall.

He had a cold and powerful aura surrounding him and I was extremely frightened.

"Who are you?" I asked tentatively, looking towards the door, hoping the Doctor or someone else would walk in.

"I am Alexander Blackthorn, your husband and the father of your child." He stated simply and I gaped at him in shock.

I didn't know who he was and never had I ever heard that name.

How was he my husband and why was he here laying claim to me and my child?

He approached me and ripped off the wires connected to my body and I screamed in fear.

He was about lifting me off the bed when the Doctor walked in.

"Please save me." I shouted out to the only person I recognized in the room.

"Who are you? What are you doing?" The doctor bellowed in anger and moved to stop him.

The unknown man grabbed the doctor with one arm and threw him across the room.

A loud thud was heard as his back slammed heavily on the wall.

He laid there in a heap not moving.

I screamed in shock and blacked out.
