Chapter six

Early the next morning, I finished packing up my things and prepared to move into Matthew's mansion.

My stepmother and younger brother were sitting seriously on the sofa and drinking water while waiting for Matthew. Last night I told the two of them that I had a boyfriend and decided to move out of my house to be with him.

My stepmother was very surprised. I only focused on studying everyday and had no time to go out with friends, she didn't think I would have a boyfriend. Although she had many doubts, she didn't ask many questions.

"Why do you suddenly want to move into your boyfriend's house? What kind of person was he? Was he good to you?" She asked.

"He was Matthew, he was a very good person, always caring and taking care of me. You don't need to worry, he will take good care of me." I answered.

The stepmother quietly nodded, actually she didn't care if he was a good person or not or how my life would be after moving in with him, she was just pretending to care about me so she wouldn't be judged as an evil stepmother.

On the contrary, My brother didn't let me go so easily. When he heard that I was about to leave, he rushed out of the room.

“Since when did you have a boyfriend, Why I don't know? You have your house, why do you have to move in with him? And why do you choose to leave tomorrow? It's too quickly, people who don't know will think that you have a conflict with our mother, so you have to move out." Venn said all the thoughts in his mind at once, without any reservations.

"What are you saying? please shut up." Stepmother yelled at Venn angrily, " A kid who doesn't know anything like you should just sit and listen."

She loved Venn so much, she'd never been harsh with him. Right now, she screamed like that, showing how much she cared about this. She had never loved me, but she hadn't done anything harsh to me except not support me to go to college because she was a person who took reputation very seriously, she was afraid of people saying she was an evil stepmother behind her back.

"Mom, I'm not a child anymore!" Venn said stubbornly.

"You hang out with friends all day and don't care about me. How could you know when I have a boyfriend?" I spoke up, trying to defuse the awkward situation.

"You should listen to me, you can't trust a man so easily and can't move in with him, if you do move, you have to wait until your love is solid, not the right now." Venn said, purposefully mimicking the tone of a mature man.

I couldn't help but laugh, he didn't look like a mature man at all.

“Come on, don't you believe in my eyes, a man who can catch my eye is definitely someone who is both excellent, good-looking and good-natured. He will come to pick me up tomorrow, then you will know my decision is right.” I said.

Venn disagreed with my decision but in this house, he was the smallest person, only me and my stepmother told him what to do, he could ask me to do anything.

When I woke up in the morning, I found Venn sitting on the sofa in the living room, quietly meditating. Except when he had to go to school in the morning, I had never seen Venn get up so early like this, it seemed that the position of an older sister like me in his heart was not low.

The phone on the table rang, and it took me a few seconds to realize it was mine.

I quickly grabbed the phone and pressed the answer button.

"Hello, May I ask who you are?" I spoke up.

"It's me." It was a cold voice, I knew it was Matthew's, he seemed unhappy because I didn't realize it was his phone number.

After calling him yesterday, I forgot to save his number, but this was not so important, I couldn't save it later.

“Yes, honey, are you coming?” Noticing my brother's gaze on me, I immediately changed my voice into a sweet tone.

Matthew was surprised, then he quickly realized that I was acting for the family to see.

"I'm almost there, are you ready?" Matthew spoke softly.

"Yes, honey, you don't need to worry about me, I have everything ready, just waiting for you to come, my family is looking forward to seeing you too." I replied, still trying to speak in the sweetest voice as possible.

Despite my enthusiasm for acting, Matthew kept his cool demeanor. I really wanted to tell him, could he be a little more enthusiastic? No one noticed him now but if he kept this attitude when he met my stepmother and brother, they would be suspicious.

Of course I just thought but I dare not ask Matthew to do anything more, firstly because my stepmother and brother were here, I couldn't say that. Second, I am afraid that if I asked too much, Matthew would get angry and stop pretending with me.

"I'll be there in about ten minutes," Matthew said, breaking my train of thought.

"I know, I'm waiting for you." I said.

“As you requested, today I just drove a normal car.” But after a moment, he added, "Brian didn't come with me, I came alone."

“Only you!” I wondered, how could he come here alone without Brian's or someone else's help?

He still needed a wheelchair. Although his surgery was very successful, his legs were much better than before, but after all, he couldn't be as healthy as usual. After that, he still had to rely on the help of crutches to be able to walk.

Suddenly I had a little self-blame. Why did I ask him to come to my house? How could I forget how inconvenient it was every time he went out?

On the other side, Matthew laughed out loud, "Do you believe me when I say that?"

I was silent for a moment, realizing he was joking with me.

"A person who was still in a wheelchair yesterday, How can he drive today? it's so absurd that you can believe it, baby. That's stupid!"

I hate him calling me "baby". He learned from my way of talking just to make fun of me.

I was dumbfounded for a moment, yes, such stupid that I could believe in that. Perhaps in my impression, Matthew was the one who dared to do whatever he wanted, moreover he was not like the one who would joke or tease others so when he said he came here alone, I didn't think and believe.

"I can't continue to talk with you if you keep talking with me in that voice so I'm trying to get your voice back to normal, unexpectedly your IQ is sometimes so low.” Matthew laughed, obviously laughing at me.

How was my voice? It was so sweet, wasn't it?

"Mr. Brown, I hope you don't make fun of me like that, my intelligence is already on studying, there is no spare for other useless matters," I tried to defend.

"Okay, I know, no more teasing." Matthew said, his intonation back to normal, "I'll be at your house in about ten minutes."

“I know, thank you, honey.”

Hearing me say the word "honey", Matthew laughed again, even though I didn't want to, but I had to continue pretending. There were four eyes staring at me, four ears listening to my conversation, I couldn't suddenly change my attitude.

Although I secretly scolded Matthew in my mind, I still had to smile on my face and pretend that I really love him.

"I've prepared everything, just waiting for you to come pick me up." I tried to lie while still smiling.

“When I come to your house, Is there anything I have to pay attention to?” Matthew asked.

"No." Suddenly remembering a problem, I quickly said, "You just wait for me outside the car, I'll go there, you don't have to get out of your car."

“Is that okay?” Matthew asked again.

"It's okay, I'll tell everyone."

I forgot to tell everyone about Matthew's legs before, but it was not too late to tell them now.

All of a sudden I felt like I really was an idiot, if I had asked someone else to pretend to be my lover instead of Matthew. Everything would be easier. Anyway, breaking up was normal, I said to Venn that we broke up later.

Besides, there are countless other reasons that could be an excuse to move out, but I didn't think of it, I was really too stupid.

We had gone too far to draw back, now I just had to move on, hoping that there wouldn't be any embarrassing situations that suddenly arose.
