Chapter 4

KENNA

My first course of action was to talk to Greg and ask him who Sean was. Unfortunately for me, he took a vacation for two weeks and instructed the other workers to tell Nikki and me not to contact him for anything other than a life and death-matter.

Today was the day that he was going to return to work and I was fully prepared. I knocked on his office door and waited to hear a grunt in reply before I stepped in.

"What is it, girly? If it doesn't have to do with me making a ton of money, then leave the office." Greg said in a gruff manner before he turned to look at me.

I rolled my eyes. "This is incredibly serious," I told him as I took a seat on the chair across from him.

"What happened?" He raised a curious brow.

"I'm pregnant." I blurted out. His lips parted and I saw how shock flashed on his features before he cackled.

"You got a boyfriend now or…?"

"You remember those two men who booked the entire private lounge months ago. The one I went home with. He's the only one I've slept with in over a year." I explained, fiddling with my fingers.

The amusement on Greg's face transitioned into surprise, then fear. "Wait a second, back up here. Are you trying to say that man is the father of your child?" he asked, trying to grasp the weight of the situation.

I nodded. "Yes, he is." I choked out.

Greg started to shake his head. "Are you sure it's him? Didn't you guys use any condoms? Did you sleep with another? Are you sure that you're pregnant? Been to a hospital?" Greg inquired, and I simmered in anger.

"Yes, I'm sure!" I snapped, then let out a cool breath from my mouth. "I'm a month and three weeks pregnant, said my gynaecologist. I told you that I haven't slept with anyone except for him in over a year. And no, we didn't use any condoms." I forced the last sentence out of my mouth, feeling ashamed.

Greg stood up from his chair, seeming that he couldn't contain himself any longer. "Why did you two act so recklessly? No condom? You the fuck does that? Aren't you aware of STDs? My goodness, Kenna. I thought you were smarter than this." Greg sounded so annoyed with me.

My eyes turned glassy, and I started to sob. "I didn't know. I thought I was smarter but I guess I'm not. I don't know what to do or where to find him. I just don't know anything anymore." I cried harder.

Anytime I thought of my situation, it reminded me just how foolish I was. What was I thinking that night?

"Ah, girly. Don't cry. Just don't cry. Crying's not going to solve anything at this point, hope you know that?" Greg said as he leaned against his desk next to me and stroked my hair.

I wiped my cheeks with my palm and tried to even my breathing. "I just need his last name. Then I can find him and tell him everything. Maybe something good will come out of it." My hope shot off the roof.

Greg looked sceptical as he looked at me.

"What? You don't know his last name either?" I asked in a cautious tone, and just like that, my hope started seeping out of me.

Greg shook his head. "It's not that. I do know his last name. But girly, that man isn't a man that you should get tangled with in such a matter. Do you know what I'm going to tell you now? Abort the baby while it's still early. You're young, full of life. Don't ruin your life because of some drunken mistake." Greg said, and I reeled back.

"What the hell are you saying? I'm not going to abort the baby when I haven't told the father yet. Why are you keeping his last name from me? Just tell me so that I can rip the band-aid off." I was starting to sound agitated.

The doctor said it was because of my pregnancy mood swings that I got too overwhelmed by emotions these days.

Greg took a deep breath, then exhaled through his mouth. "Foxx. His last name is Foxx. Sean Foxx. It will do you well to search up that name and know what you're up against before you go like a wrecking ball into his life." Greg said in a down tone, then moved away from me and returned to his chair.

"Thank you, Greg. You have no idea what this means to me." I said as I stood up from the chair, feeling happy.

"Just don't be disappointed if things don't go the way you want them to," Greg called out from behind me, and I flashed him an appreciative smile.

Everything was going to be fine as long as I made it fine.

I went to the counter to tell Nikki the information I just got.

"Should I search him up on G****e for you?" she asked, pulling out her phone from her back pocket, and I nodded.

"Yes, do that. Greg emphasized on me searching him up," Nikki was already typing away as I spoke. "I know that he's going to be some rich dude but I bet everything is going to f—"

"Uh… Kenna." Nikki planted her phone on the counter.

"What?" I picked it up for her.

"Read that." She pointed to her phone.

I held the phone to my eye level. "He's the one! His picture is even here! Let me look at what it says," I bounced on my stool. "Um… Sean Foxx, CEO of Foxx Enterprises. Most eligible bachelor in America. Worth twenty billion dollars…" I dropped the phone on the counter as I read that, my jaw dropping hard.

"He's worth twenty billion dollars," I repeated in a shell-shocked voice.

"This entire neighbourhood isn't worth that much," Nikki said, using the same tone as I did. "And Foxx enterprises. They own almost everything in New York City. Heck, they own the hotel across the street. The coffee shops, fashion houses, estates, theatres, jewellery houses, even—"

"Okay! I get it. You don't have to keep listing how many things they own!" I snapped at Nikki, and she clamped her mouth shut.

"Sorry, it's just that he's high profile. And the most eligible bachelor in the city. At least he's not married with kids like you thought. So that's somewhat of a good thing." She tried to make light of the situation, and I threw a glare her way.

It would've been way better if he had been a married man with kids than him being worth ten billion dollars. Ten billion dollars! I wasn't worth a thousand dollars and he was worth ten billion bucks!

"Nikki, how am I going to do this? What am I going to do? If I go to him, telling him that I'm carrying his baby, he's going to think that I'm some obsessed fan girl who only wants his money. This is horrible." Tears pricked the corners of my eyes as I spoke.

"I knew he was some rich dude, but ten billion? I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do." I said in between. Nikki reached out to me and wiped my tears, calmly.

"It's going to be fine. Believe me, everything is going to be fine." She assured me.

"Ten billion bucks, Nikki. Nothing is going to be fine. I'm worth fifty bucks right now with a baby. Nothing is going to be fine." I told her but she shook her head, refusing to believe me.

"You're overthinking this. What if you go to him and he takes you in? What then? Everything is going to be alright. Think positive." She was still bent on making light of things.

The two of us knew that deep down, nothing was going to be fine. I was done for. Sean Foxx was way above my level and compared to him, I was like a gum on the sidewalk.

My entire life was ruined...
