Nolan’s POV
I could not tell if it was hurt from the mate bond or the pain of not seeing Elva but I was far from okay.
Worried was an understatement as I was even more worried something might be wrong with her. What if she was really dead? What if…
No. I shook my head. I was not going to let such thoughts dominate my mind. I was not going to allow such thoughts to mess with my reasoning. I let out a sigh as I turned to her parents.
“Be calm. We will find her” I answered. I was not sure if I was assuring them or myself, but I really hoped we would find her.
“Of course, she is safe” John nodded. He seemed to be so much assured that she was fine. His wife on the other hand had become an emotional mess. Even though she had tried to not act scared or look worried, her emotions failed her and it was boldly written all over her face.
I took a final glance at the cliff and turned to leave. I really wished she was not in there.
“Take your wife home. I believe she needs to rest. I will find Elva and bring her home to you” I assured and faked a smile.
“No. You do not have to worry about that. We would join you to search for her” John objected.
I needed to be away from them as I had begun to feel bad about it as I believed it was all my fault.
“Come on. Your wife is quite worried. I believe you should take her home so she could rest” I urged but their mind seemed to be made up.
“No, there is no need for that. I want to see my daughter when you find her and know what is wrong with her. My daughter does not leave the house whenever she likes. I believe she is hurt. Something must have gone wrong with her”. Mrs. Williams complained as we walked away, going deep into the woods to find her.
I rolled my eyes as I was tired of her non-stop complaints although I knew it was my fault. Regardless, I did not regret my actions. I had to put the pack first before anything else.
I however hoped no one would find out about what had happened.
“She must be really hurt. My poor child!” She cried. Her husband embraced her quickly as he continually assured her that she would be fine.
It was surprising how she had suddenly changed so quickly. One minute, she was assuring us that Elva was fine and the next minute, she was a ball of emotions crying so loud.
I was quite scared Father would not allow me to be the Alpha. I let out a sigh as we had gotten to the last edge of the woods. There was possibly no way we could go further. I knew we had to return.
“We have to leave now, it is getting late. She would definitely return” I assured them and they nodded.
“Thank you so much. We really appreciate it” Mr. Williams nodded as he thanked me. His wife on the other hand still had a sober reflection on her face.
She suddenly jerked up and looked at me, making me arch my brows. Was she aware of what had happened? I however decided to act like I was not bothered about anything.
“Are you not supposed to know where she is?” She suddenly questioned, looking at me as though I had the answer to where she was. I was taken aback as I had not expected it.
“The mate bond is supposed to help you know where she is. You should be able to connect with her” She answered almost immediately as if the knowledge had just clouded my mind.
John nodded as well and all eyes were on me. I was confused and I did not know what to say at that moment. I could not tell everyone that I had broken the bond.
“Well, I….” I stuttered as I looked at them, thinking of the easiest lie to tell but my mind suddenly went blank. I knew I had to think fast. Everyone kept staring at me, waiting for a suitable explanation.
“Yes, but I have no idea why that has not happened. Perhaps, she is… she is … she might have returned to your house” I answered. Even though it made no sense, I was relieved they believed me as no one stared at me with a questioning look anymore.
“Do not worry. We will find her and bring her. Nothing would go wrong” I assured them again for a second time. They nodded and turned to leave.
“I believe she would be at her pack. It is time for the celebration, let’s go” I added and they all agreed with me. I was quite relieved everything had been settled. Well….. Temporarily.
Father was outside, his hands crossed behind him as he paced up and down the hall. Seeing us all approaching, he looked at us, his eyes widened as he searched for her in our midst. I was sorry to disappoint him but I was doing my best for the pack.
I was an Alpha… a soon-to-be Alpha. I had to put the interest of the pack first.
“Father, we could not find her” I informed him as he looked at me with so much expectation. His face dropped as soon as he heard what I had said.
“This could possibly be a bad omen!” Mother started, drawing Father’s gaze as well as mine to her as she proceeded to join us from wherever she had been. I rolled my eyes as I had expected that but even though it was not at that moment. Mother was too dramatic and she would not hesitate to draw meaning to every little thing. How could I tell Mother that Elva had left because I rejected her?
“Mother, whatever happened is nothing. She might have been bothered or perhaps, she felt the need to go out for something important. She would be back soon” I explained as best as I could.
“Why are you not bothered about her missing? She is your mate and you should feel the impact of her absence the most.” Mother answered angrily.
“Because I know she is gone and would return soon” I furrowed my brows.
“Your Mother might be right, son. “ He let out a sigh and turned to look at me.
“We should cancel the celebration for tonight”
“What?”
Elva’s POV The sudden change in time, a new development happening in just a short period of time, and it still all felt like a dream that I had to pinch myself severally to be sure it was not all a dream, and each time, I confirmed that it was not a dream. A ray of hope lit up my heart as I was assured I could really be happy again with no fear. My mind traveled to Nolan and even though I really missed him, I had to push the thoughts aside. He was the last person I wanted to think of. Somehow, I was grateful to him because if he had not rejected me, I would not have decided to jump off the cliff and I would definitely not have been found. Mother and Father had left together, holding themselves in each other’s hand as Mother had insisted she wanted to specially make the meal I would have first while Father had agreed to accompany her. I pushed the window open and basked in the comfort of the ray of the moon. It seemed like the moon goddess had finally smiled at me and decided to
ELVA’S POV “Go get her,” Father nodded to the guards who were stationed beside us as we ate. All of them made a U-turn and matched toward the throne door with immediate effect. No one dared waste a second before executing Father’s command. The huge metal door swung open and the guards matched out of the throne room. Not long after they had left, they came marching back into the throne room in twos, with a beautiful pink-haired girl behind them. About ten steps before the dining table the soldiers stopped and made a walking path between them for the pink-haired girl. She caught a loose tendril of her pink hair between two fingers and tucked it back behind her ear, igniting a warm smile on her face as she began to walk slowly, her hips swaying. I gently dropped my fork on the table as I watched her approach us in the most elegant manner. Her slender body behind that cherry red gown she wore, the fluid motion of her elegant catwalk, her light and graceful smile. Everything about her
ELVA'S POV The moment Selena sat down, Lucius came walking in through the door. "Princesses!" His vibrant youthful voice rang cheerfully as he bounced in. His demeanor was so different from what it normally was. Maybe he had an alter ego because as much as I could remember, he had always been a serious person, carrying his sword about looking for someone to train with. But today, having returned from training and taken his bathe, his spirit seemed different as he was dressed in a casual turtleneck shirt and had no armor anywhere on him. He noticed the surprised look on my face and smiled. "Are you surprised that I came out this fast?" He asked me. "Kinda... Yeah..." I stuttered cause it hadn't been up to six minutes since we met him returning from training. He came to a stop and cleared his throat, and I could sense he was about to boast of one thing or the other. Probably about how he does things as a MAN. "As a warrior," he began, putting his two arms on his waist, slightl
NOLAN’S POV“I, Nolan Feuggman, heir to the Alpha throne of the Nightfrost wolf pack, hereby swear before you, the great white wolf, that I did not take the life of my previous mate, Elva, or cause her to take her own life. If my words are false, may I lose my own life right here before you…”Sigh.“C’mon, Jack, this is the fourth we’ve been now still swearing. I didn’t kill Elva. I love her with my life and you all know that. Why would I kill her?”“Wait till we get home,” he said. His voice, though quiet, had an ominous quality. My heart exploded when I got home only to sleep and wake up to hear that Jack had been going around and throwing shades on my name. I had to confront him immediately when the news got to my ears.“Enough of this rubbish, Jack. How dare you?” I barged into his house and walked up to him just untying the lace of his shoes. It seemed he had just returned from somewhere. Probably somewhere he had gone to speak ill of me.“So much boldness for a murderer,” he rema
NOLAN’S POV Lydia left the room immediately after we were done. She looked so satisfied as she left before Mum could find out what we did. Although it was okay for us werewolves to marry our distant cousins, Lydia’s father was more like a brother to my father. He was younger than my father and they had grown up together until he decided to find his own world. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out how he had expected. But even when my father gave him open arms to return to the pack, he still stayed glued to his decision of finding his world. When evening came, I went to meet Father where he usually stayed watching the sun go down a sight at the outskirts. “Father,” I called him as I reached the top of the rocky hill where he was. “You knew I’d be here,” he said without turning back. It was like a ritual for him to watch the sun go down. He’d stay there until the moon came up before he returned home—his little quiet place. “Who doesn’t know that this is where to find you at dusk?”
ELVA’S POV A year had passed, but Father hadn’t let me leave the palace. He promised me that he’d reveal me to the kingdom on my birthday and it was going to be a big day. Throughout the previous year, the farthest place I could go was the palace gate and a garden behind the palace where Mother planted daisies and dandelions. The only person from outside the palace walls who had been able to get a glance of my face was the pack artist. He came every month to paint a picture of me for Mother. The first month of the new year had just ended, and our artist had come to do his job. “Elva! You’re still dressed in your casual wear!” Mum exclaimed when she saw me descending the magnificently decorated twirling stairs, painted white and gold on the rails, with a red carpet covering the stairs. “Is the artist here already?” I asked. “Yes,” A subtle voice came from under the stairs, where the artist’s chair was usually kept whenever he was done painting. But it wasn’t the artist creeping ou
ELVA’S POV “Good morning, father… Good morning, mother…” “Good morning, my beautiful daughter,” Father said to me. My face went to the man who stood beside Father and I wondered if I had ever seen him in the palace or not. There were many servants, and I couldn’t boast of knowing them all by face, even after staying a year in the palace. But his outfit didn’t look like a servant’s. He wore a gray satin shirt atop brown trousers. When my eyes glanced at his shoes, I became certain that he wasn’t a servant. I was about to greet him when Father spoke. Pointing at the man, Father said, “Daughter, from today, Mr. Stewart, here, will be your trainer. He’s a werewolf from a distant pack who is an expert at teaching people how to control their wolves. His methods are proven and he’d be in charge of both your physical and mental training to awaken and control your wolf.” Lucius had been the one tutoring me all this while. He had been generous enough to make out time to train his big siste
ELVA’S POV I scrammed the bathroom the moment I heard a knock on my door. It was time for my first training with Mr Stewart and I was almost running late. I hadn’t thought it through before going into the bathroom to bathe. I’d still get dirty from the training, so it made no sense now that I had taken my bath. “Who’s there?” I asked as I forced my legs through my blue underwear. “It’s me,” Selena’s voice came from behind the door. I rushed to the door. “Sorry I locked the door,” I said as she came in, “I was taking my bath.” “These are your training uniforms,” she said, handing over a stack of folded clothes to me. I received it from her and she turned, leaving without saying one more word. Mum or Dad seemed to have just woken her from sleep to give me the uniforms. Her room was very close to theirs, making her the most accessible person whenever they needed to send someone on an errand. The uniforms were of three different colors; each consisting of a long-sleeve shirt and a
