Chapter 4: Lycan Princess

Elva’s POV

“Elva? What’s the matter?” Lydia asked as she grabbed my hands in her warm hands. Her reaction only made me cry even harder as the genuine warmth swirling in her eyes made me sad at all the years I have missed with her.

Thoughts of how much I have missed out on when I could have been with them made me want to cry even more but looking at their worried faces, I finally got my emotions under control.

“I... I thought I was human and didn’t have any wolf in me..” I explained, partly expecting them to laugh at my silly excuse. But Lydia did the opposite.

“Oh my darling! See what your incompetence has caused to our daughter!” Lydia said and punched her husband lightly before she turned to me.

“Elva, we are different from werewolves. Your beast form only gets awakened when you reach eighteen and from then on, it takes another two years for the entire transformation process to finish,”

“Two years?” After living with werewolves for the past nineteen years, I had grown accustomed to their immediate transformation under the full moon.

Seems like Lycans were really different then.

“Yes, by our estimate, your two years should be almost complete and anytime soon, you will have your transformation,” her husband said and I almost wept from the excitement that rushed through me.

To think that everything had changed so drastically.

“Elva, you mentioned something about jumping off a cliff just now…” Lydia started and she looked at me with caution as if asking if she could continue.

Knowing what she wanted to know, I told her simply. Even though memories of what Nolan had done were not something I wanted to remember, with how worried they both seemed, somehow, I told them what happened between us.

“That bastard!”

“Does he think that my own daughter is a weakling? If you are with him, he’s the cow dung on my little princess’s flower!” My father bellowed, his face turning a deep shade of red.

Lydia tapped him on the shoulder to try to get him under control but he shrugged her hands away.

“Elva, don’t worry about some measly man that doesn’t have foresight okay? Stay with father and mother and we would introduce you to the best men in the entire continent.” Father promised, standing up and crouching beside me.

“As a Lycan, you get to choose your mates. There are very rare cases of lycans and werewolves mating and it’s mostly because his wolf had sensed the strength in you and picked you itself,” he explained further.

With his huge frame, his sincerity made a sharp contrast that almost had me smiling. And his words were nothing but kind and thoughtful.

I felt a deep sense of safety just from his words. Like as if the man in front of me could hold up the world for me.

“Thank you, father.” I ended up saying, my heart skipping a beat from daring to call him that.

The room became deathly silent with father gazing at me like I was some goddess descending from the sky while Lydia had tears rolling from her eyes.

I looked between the two of them, wondering what I had done wrong. “E..Elva, father is proud of you,” he finally said and then pulled me into a bone-crushing hug.

“Paul, how dare you charm my daughter away from me! I had clearly talked to her first but she called you first,” Lydia said with tears rolling down her eyes while she glared at her husband.

“You are probably the one that scared her by being too nice! You aren’t this way with everyone, perhaps your daughter can tell.” Paul teased and he sent a wink at me.

Just looking at that interaction was enough to have me rolling over in laughter and my mood became a lot better.

Lydia turned to me, her eyes shining with expectations. Although I had only known them for less than an hour. The bond I felt was not something I could deny.

It was almost like I had just returned back home after a long journey.

“Mother,” I called out softly, testing how the word sounded on my lips when it was addressed to a different person.

As soon as she heard me, Lydia burst out crying, her body shaking uncontrollably that Paul had to leave my side and return to hers.

“See, she only called you once and you became a crying mess. How do you want your daughter to believe you can protect her?” Paul teased as he pulled her into his arms and ran his large palms on her back.

Lydia eventually got her emotions under control and smiled happily.

“Now, those court bastards won’t say trash about me having no heir!”

“Elva, who were you staying with all these years? How did they treat you?”

“If they treated you well, we have to return and thank them for all these years. Otherwise, they would be getting the wrath of your mother and me”

Thinking of John and Mary, I felt a little guilty about how they would feel when they found out that I was gone.

These past few years, they have treated me like their own and they would surely be saddened by my sudden disappearance.

“They treated me very well, if I hadn’t overheard them, I would never have known that they weren’t my parents.” I answered honestly.

Hearing that, the both of them nodded in satisfaction.

“When you are better and have gotten used to being here, father and mother would go with you to thank them for all these years.” Mother said and I nodded in agreement.

Just thinking of Jack and I was already regretting my harsh action. Although, it had brought me to where I was meant to be.

Father and mother took turns in telling me about the lycan kingdom that they ruled and a part of me yearned to see it. To finally belong somewhere.

“W..what if I don’t transform?” I asked worriedly, from the sounds of it, despite being king and Queen here, they weren’t completely invincible and mother seemed to be looking forward to my transformation.

The both of them chuckled at my question.

“Elva, even if the whole kingdom can’t get their transformation, you still will.” Mother said and gave my hand a little squeeze.

“You have our blood flowing through your veins, and with how strong your scent was, I’m certain that your transformation is soon….”

“….Also, when Lydia gave birth to you.. so many things had indicated that you were a special lycan. Only that we had lost you due to being careless and trusting of outsiders..”

With their words, I felt a little better but there was still some lingering fear that came from Nolan seeing me as a weakling.

I really hoped that I wouldn’t let down the hope and expectations that they both had for me. And that somehow, I would finally find a place that was meant for me.

The story seems okay right now, I just don’t like the grammar issues and the talking in third person
