Ruby looked around the doctor’s office while she waited for the doctor to arrive. She was asked to pay a visit to the doctor as soon as possible. And that phone call last night had shaken her up. Unfortunately for Ruby, Mia could not make it to the hospital since she could not take leave from her internship. In the company, they don’t give abrupt leaves for interns.

To say that Ruby was nervous and anxious would be an understatement. She was beyond anxious. It was not exactly two weeks after the insemination. But she was asked to come here two days before that. Soon, Lily, the manager of the agency, came to the hospital and joined Ruby.

They both patiently waited for the doctor. Neither of them knew what was the matter for calling them earlier than the scheduled time.

“I am sorry for keeping you both on wait,” the doctor entered the office along with a male doctor.

“It’s okay. What’s the matter? You called us earlier than the appointment?” Lily asked.

“I will tell you. There is something I have to talk to you both about. But before that, he is my colleague, Dr. Dylan,” she made the introduction and Dr. Dylan smiled at Ruby and Lily which they returned politely.

The gynecologist cleared her throat before speaking, “So, the thing is, one of the patients of Dr. Dylan was here in the hospital the other day when you all had visited. He was here to give his urine and semen sample for tests.”

Ruby and Lily wondered why the hell was this doctor talking about Dr. Dylan’s patient. And that made Ruby grow more and more anxious.

“And accidentally the semen that was supposed to be inseminated to Ruby was exchanged with Dr. Dylan’s patient and...” the doctor did not have to complete the sentence. The word exchange gave away everything.

Ruby’s hands were shaking now and her breathing became heavy. She almost got a panic attack at that moment. Lily held her hand trying to calm her down. But it was no use, Ruby threw Lily’s hand away and sent daggers through her eyes. Had she not called the bloody agency and made a decision to become a surrogate mother, this would not have happened to her.

“We will conduct a pregnancy test before we think what can be done further,” Dr. Dylan suggested. Ruby nervously nodded her head.

Ruby’s blood was drawn and was taken to test immediately. All they had to do was to wait until the results. But she felt like that was the longest wait of her life.

The gynecologist went outside the office and came back in after a few minutes.

“So, miss Ruby, the results are out and you... You are pregnant,” the gynecologist broke the news. Ruby already had tears pricking out of her eyes. She felt suffocated and she could not stay in that place anymore.

“Lily, I think we have to discuss this with the concerned semen owner and also the couple,” the doctors said.

Lily nodded her head in understanding.

Lily soon left the hospital saying she had emergency work at the agency. Ruby was left alone. The doctors told her that they would call the other part whose semen was inseminated into her. So, they can discuss what needs to be done about the concerned matter.

On the other side, Luke was having a rather pleasant day until he ran into his father, David Sawyer and his step mother, Anna Cyprus. Luke cannot stand the sight of his stepmother. She was a venom herself and reeked of it all the time. Luke never understood why the hell does his father not see this woman’s vicious antics.

They had run into each other at a small meeting. The matter was not big enough for the chairman to come to the company. But Anna had convinced her husband, David, to visit the company since they had recently come back from an overseas business meeting. She loved getting on Luke’s nerves. And she did not spare any time in doing so.

Luke was immersed in his work when his phone ringing brought him back to his senses. He picked the call, “Hello?”

“Mr. Sawyer, this is Dr Dylan here. Would you mind coming over to the hospital for a brief minute. I have something to discuss with you,” the doctor said. Luke’s brows creased. He wondered why the doctor was asking for his presence. He was treated well and he was almost cured. And his life was going smoothly, he did not need to visit the doctor.

“What is it, doctor? Can you not tell me over the phone? I am kinda busy right now,” Luke replied. He sensed the doctor being hesitant, so Luke spoke again, “What is it? Tell me right now,” he demanded.

Dr Dylan sighed before speaking, “So, do you remember that your semen from the first time was misplaced and you had to give another sample?”

Luke rubbed his forehead. How can he forget the most embarrassing moment of his life? “Yes, I remember it. What about it?”

“Well, we have found out what happened to it.” Luke hummed acknowledging the information and said, “Okay. So what happened to it?”

“So, it happened to be switched with another semen tube. And that tube was supposed to be used for an insemination process.” Luke blinked his eyes while trying to understand and analyze what the doctor was trying to say. So, the semen tubes were switched and that means his semen was used to inseminate. Does that mean some random woman got inseminated by his semen? Oh shit, is she pregnant or something? He did the calculations inside his head.

“And what next?” Luke questioned. “A couple was having their surrogate mother get inseminated. And the semen that was used there was... Yours.”

“And?” Luke was flaring with anger. He was on the edge to burst out. He was sitting on the edge of the chair by now.

“The lady is... Is pregnant,” the doctor said the obvious information.

“You got to be kidding me. I don’t know how you are going to do this, but get rid of it. Right now,” Luke said.

“I know we are at fault. But are you sure about getting rid of the baby? Please come to the hospital and meet the woman. And see how things go for both of you,” Dr Dylan was almost pleading.

“Fine, I am coming right away,” Luke halted all his work for this moment and left his office. He drove the car faster than usual and he was least bothered about getting speed tickets.

He reached the hospital and he knew his way towards Dr Dylan’s cabin. He did not spare a look at the receptionist.

As he got closer to the doctor’s cabin, he noticed a girl sitting outside the cabin. She suddenly turned towards him.

Ruby was waiting for the other party to arrive. When she felt someone walking her way, she looked up at him.

“Oh shit! Is it possibly her?”

“Please God, let it not be him.”

“She has a shitty temper. I cannot tolerate her.”

“He is a rude ass.”

Dr Dylan came outside his cabin and said, “Please come inside Ms Bakers and Mr Sawyer.”

And boom. The bomb need not be dropped down to blast. It had already blasted in Luke and Ruby’s head.
