CHAPTER 8

JASON'S POV

A banshee? This is impossible.

I could not believe that this was the case right now. I had been living with my family's impending doom all these years and even dared to have children with her.

I recalled how I had made certain to find out that she had no powers before pulling off the attack on their family. Yes, Eli just might have stated everything as truthfully as possible but seriously, what did I care about it?

Years back, we had been working against the other pack of wolves and rounding them off as my family sought just one thing and that was dominance. I mean, we wolves were not wolves for nothing as it was clear what our supremacy was. To think that our kind hid in the shadows and in fear of the human race was simply something I could not understand. It did not make sense. How would one hold so much power and still be afraid to show it off.

I had been tutored by my father himself and it had been his goal all these years but apparently, he did not have the strength to make it happen. Clearly, he was easily swayed by the so-called werewolf council that was full of weak and pathetic minds. I could not let them control my decisions or make us keep lurking in the shadows. They had in fact threatened my father with total annihilation of our pack if we made a move on the humans and being the weakling I would say he was, my old man backed out from the beautiful plan he had in place. Clearly, he was a people's pleaser but come on, I could not stand by and watch him ruin everything we had struggled for.

So, it happened that on the night that he returned and asked that I pass on the information that we would be calling off the plan to dominate and that I had assisted him with his eternal rest. Do not blame me. A man on the mission should be able to count his losses at any time and live through it. I had led him out into the night and pulled off an unexpected attack on him.

He was dying and still spoke to me that he understood why I was being that way but he would ask that I call it off as even the fates were against our plan. I demanded to know what he meant and he had been gracious to reveal that there had been a prophecy also that accompanied the whole fearful display. Accordingly, a witch from the bloodline of the last banshee shall arise with the same powers. She was already born and her goal would be set upon us to end us and call the dead upon us.

Why on earth had he not told me the entire story. Then I would not have smeared my hands with his blood. I watched my father die in pain before covering him up with wolfsbane and masking my scent. I made it look like it was probably someone from the other packs that were against my father's beautiful dream for us that had done this and of course as the newest Alpha, I had more grounds. It was time to draw a formidable plan that no one could break. My father might not have thought of it that way but since the witch was our problem, the best we could do was to remove her and her lineage.

So, we began tracing origins from history and realized that they had relocated to this town where I found them. I had been on their tail and trying to find out things about them when I learnt that it was the first daughter with powers. The second however had nothing about that in her. That night of the attack, I had been in the woods and observed the girl. She clearly was frightened and I had expected that she would do something but she ran instead. A witch would defend herself and a banshee would do even worse. It became clear that this one was the runt of the family and I already had her sister.

However, killing her family and the werewolf family in power here was not enough as I needed to make certain she had no powers. I started drawing closer to her and trying to get to know her. Miriam made it easy as she needed at the time, a shoulder to cry on and someone to tell her story to. I was more than willing to be that someone for her sake. For a really long time, I monitored her movements until she made it clear to me that there was no such power about her but life had taken a turn and I had fallen for the woman whose family I had murdered. I decided that it was my opportunity to experience true love and a little redemption as I paved through the path I had set for myself secretly.

Now tell me how I would have known that her ex boyfriend would show up on my doorstep suddenly after all these years? Even worse was how her powers as a banshee were just activating?

No way would I lose right now. I needed to make a move swiftly now that Eli was busy smiling at her as I knew that no matter what, she probably hates me right now.

He was distracted and I suddenly flipped to full wolf mode as I howled and lunged at him. In his bid to side step, I clawed him across the chest really deep and he fell to the side in pain. He would need a minute to heal. Now I turned to Miriam with so much anger in my eyes. She locked eyes with me and at first, did not make any move. I needed to observe and be certain that she would not harm me and then she started crying.

"Please, Jason. Please stop." She said to me,

"Move it, dumb woman." I muttered in my head as I really needed her to move so I could attack.

It was almost like she could hear me and she started moving backwards towards the stairs but then as she tried to turn and run up, I growled and made a go at her. It was too late for her when she turned as I pounced on her and bit her at the side. She fell with her back and landed her head with a loud thud on the stairs as I bounded off. I turned one more time as I glanced at my wife as she started bleeding.

Sincerely, I just hoped that for her sake, she dies from the wound because it would save her the trouble. It was straight upstairs for me.
