Chapter 6

He started to laugh uncontrollably. Yvonne could only stand aside and look at him. Zachary had laughed for quite some time before he stopped.

“Yvonne Yates, you are one of a kind. You are not good-looking and pretty incompetent as an assistant. Now to add your fierceness into the mix. Which man would dare to marry you?”

Zachary had always had a sharp tongue. Yvonne just lowered her eyes silently in response.

With no regard to how she felt, Zachary continued saying, “It’s all your fault for wasting my time. I was supposed to get lunch together with Lulu, but this happened instead… Get yourself a cab home. I’ll be deducting your bonus by half this month!”

Zachary got into his car and left when he finished, leaving Yvonne to stand there by herself for some time before she dragged herself over to the bus stop nearby.

In less than five minutes after she had left, a luxurious Aston Martin pulled to a stop in the police station’s parking lot. Jackson was sitting in the back seat. His assistant, James Larson, opened the door and asked, “President Miller, do you want to go in and take a look?”

“No need, you can go. Tell her that there will be no next time. She only get her chance this time!”

James nodded and strode into the police station. Jackson looked at him walk into the station as he recalled how much of a mess Yvonne had been in just now. He felt irritated.

Yvonne Yates, you are a wild person, aren’t you? Didn’t you call money a pile of trash and did not want a single cent when you left the family? What are you doing now? What kind of trouble have you gotten into to start working as a waiter?

He found a box of cigarettes and lit one of them. He had just taken his first huff when James came back out. “Mr. Miller, Madam has already been picked up!”

“Picked up? By who? Yosef Turner?” Jackson asked those three questions in order. James shook his head. “No, it was Zachary Quimby!”

“Zachary Quimby? Haha!” Jackson laughed coldly. Zachary and Yosef were best friends. One could imagine how important she was to Yosef based on how quickly she was picked up.

He crushed the cigarette between his fingers. “Let’s go!”

Yvonne stood and waited at the bus stop for half an hour before she finally boarded the bus. Her uncle, Wesley Yates, was watching television in the living room. When he saw the disheveled state she was in, he gasped in shock, “Yvonne, what happened?”

“I met that person!” Yvonne kept no secrets from her uncle.

“Yvonne, you should not have come back! Imagine how good it must have been to stay with Yosef…”

“Uncle, I can’t stay with Yosef forever. I can’t bog him down with my identity. Besides, I’m worried about you and your poor health.”

“Ah, it’s all my fault. I’m already so old and yet causing you trouble!” Wesley sighed.

“Don’t worry. I won’t stay in South City for long. Centurion Group has opened up a new office at Harrison Company, and maybe I’ll get transferred to work there. Both of us can then leave South City and never have to meet these people ever again.”

Fiona hurried out of the car and into the living room as she arrived back at the Summers home. “Mom, I’m back!”

Susan Lowe, who was sitting in the living room, was shocked when she looked up to see Fiona’s messy hair and stained gown. “What happened?”

“Let’s talk upstairs.” Fiona glanced at the maid in the living room before grabbing Susan’s hand and dashing up the stairs with her. Just as she shut the door, she said, “Mom, Yvonne Yates is back. What should we do?”

“What are you talking about? Yvonne Yates is back? Is that true?” Susan was shocked.

“It’s true. I met her at tonight’s cocktail party. Her life seems to be quite rough now. She was working as a waitress at the party…” Fiona told Susan everything that had happened that night.

“What were you thinking that was going to happen when you provoked her like that?” Susan grumbled.

“How could I just stand there and do nothing? Mom, think about it. Why would she reappear now after disappearing for three years?” Fiona had an angry expression on her face. “She must have come back because she heard that Jackson and I are getting engaged soon.”

“Is that so?” Susan asked.

“Of course it is. She was annoyed that I’ve taken Jackson away from her. I’m worried she’ll go looking for Jackson, so I thought I might as well make my move first.”

“That’s a good idea, but your dad… he’s always been thinking about that person and will be looking for her if he knows she’s back. That would be a difficult situation to handle!”

“So you have to hurry and come up with a plan.”

“Let me think! There is no way that she can publicize her relationship with your father. We are done for if she does that!” Susan said with a grave expression on her face.
