Chapter 7: A bad night.

"Fuck! Who are you? Stop!" A hoarse male voice shouted behind me.

Only a madman would stand to be caught. I ran with all my might even though the wound all over my body was aching. At the turn, I continued to run straight without turning into the corridor with my room because it would be a dead end if I turned into that corridor.

Reaching the stairs, I immediately ran upstairs without thinking. The two sentinels who chased after me still didn't give up.

Thanks to the darkness and the many twists and turns, I had a chance to avoid their gazes and hide in a corner. I heard their conversation nearby without waiting for me to catch my breath.

"You keep looking! I'll go turn on the lights."

"Ok!"

In my heart, panic. If the lights were on, it would be hard for me to hide. The probability of being caught is ninety percent.

While thinking, the footsteps got closer to me and stopped not far from me. I secretly watched him. He was slowly opening the door of a room. Perhaps the half-closed door made him think I was in that room.

Next to me is a small potted plant. Each corridor is decorated with potted plants. An idea popped into my head. I immediately raised the potted plant. Although it is a bit heavy, it is still manageable with two hands.

I quickly moved into the room. The sentinel didn't notice me at all. He was about to turn on the light, but I hit him on the head with a potted plant before he did.

A loud noise resounded. The guard lay fainted on the floor, and at the same time, the human in this room also woke up.

I still hold the pot plant in my hand. Before I could do anything next, the owner of this room's high-pitched scream rang out. Then I looked at her, and she fainted.

I was bewildered for a few seconds but quickly regained my composure. Maybe she thought I had killed someone, so she panicked. But I don't really kill people. I adjusted the sentinel enough for the guard to faint; he won't die.

That aside, I don't have time to stand around here. I left the room and returned the pot plant to its original position. Afterward, I followed the old route and returned to my room.

There was no one in the way of a smooth return. I probably wouldn't have acted so quickly if that sentinel hadn't fainted.

As soon as I got to my room, I saw that the lights in the hallway were already on. I decisively closed the door and climbed into bed, pretending I was asleep and hadn't left the room. Now, I don't feel hungry anymore.

About ten minutes later, my door was pushed open, and I had foreseen this situation. I pretended to be startled awake, rubbed my eyes, and said in a snoring voice, "what's the matter? Is it time for work?"

"Did you run out of the room?" A bitter woman's voice rang out.

I stopped rubbing my eyes and looked towards the door. Before my eyes were Ashe and a man, that man went into my bathroom to check. Then he said, "nothing suspicious."

"What? I'm still sleeping. I haven't stepped out of the room... is there something wrong? What's going on?" My face was surprised and then scared. I must be like a shy innocent kitten right now.

Ashe seemed half convinced and doubtful. She stared at me with her bullet-shaped eyes. Contrary to Ashe, the man seemed to have trusted me. He replied, "There's a suspicious person in here! Everyone's gathered in the yard to investigate. You get out quickly."

"Huh?..." I looked at him with confused eyes.

Ashe snorted coldly and shouted, "What are you seeing? Hurry up and go to the front yard to check! Hurry up!"

“Yes… yes…” I retracted my bewildered expression and got out the bed.

Ashe glared at me with disgust and then left with the man.

I left and saw Ashe and the man checking the next room. I chuckled in my heart and turned to walk to the yard.

About fifteen or sixteen people were gathered, standing in two horizontal rows. They were still wearing the same pajamas as I, and their faces were all bewildered about what had happened. I quickly got to the end of the line.

A middle-aged man who seemed to be the superior of the soldiers. He questioned them one by one, his expression so fierce that the enslaved people trembled. And a soldier in red followed behind the commander, and he looked closely at the interrogators as if trying to identify them.

I speculated that the soldier was one of the two who pursued me. He must have been the one who turned on the light because the person I knocked unconscious right now couldn't wake up so quickly.

There is no suspicious information because everyone is sleeping at this hour.

When it was my turn, the commander asked the same questions as the previous ones. I also said that I was sleeping and had never left the room. The soldier stared at me. I tried to look as dumb and harmless as possible, but inside I panicked. Finally, watching the soldier shake his head at the commander, I also breathed a sigh of relief in my heart. Of course, I won't show it on the surface.

There was no suspicious information since the enslaved people slept at this hour. The commander couldn't find the intruder, so he became irritated. He cursed at the soldier, spreading his anger to the enslaved people.

"All stand still until morning. Don't leave without my orders." The commander shouted sternly. Then he turned to leave.

The enslaved people looked at each other. Maybe the commander was gone, so they weren't scared anymore. They resent having their sleep disrupted and punished like this when they have done nothing wrong.

Another soldier stayed behind to watch us, his expression annoyed, looking at the enslaved people with disgust. "Silent!" He shouted.

The whispers of the enslaved people were also silenced. Although the soldier had only one man, the enslaved people did not dare to oppose him.

I sigh. Looking at the people here, I feel guilty about getting implicated with them.
