Chapter 9

I glanced at Dante, who was standing solemnly beside me. He was the commander at this base while I was away. Dante saw me frown and understood what I was thinking. He sternly ordered the guard outside the room to "take this slave to Ashe to handle!"

"No, no... please, don't make me... I don't want to go... please... no... don't come near me... Nooooo..."

The maid was gagged and dragged out of the room.

"What about this soldier?" Dante asked my opinion again.

"It's up to you to handle it!" I replied coldly. I want to avoid getting involved in small things like punishing my subordinates. Dante said yes and ordered the soldier to leave the room.

At this point, only Dante and I were left in the room. I asked, "Isn't there a camera in the hallway?"

"It was installed in the past, but most of the base's technological equipment was damaged during the last riot. I sent a request to the center pack for assistance repairing and installing new equipment, but The money sent here is only half the requested amount. I spent that money on necessities, so I don't have money to install a new camera system." Dante seriously explained in detail.

The riot Dante was referring to was something that happened a month ago. The enslaved people in this border area conspired to create a protest to regain their rights of enslaved people.

Because of the lack of military force to suppress the protests, the enslaved people could quickly enter the base. The easy victory made the enslaved people's ambitions even more intense. They foolishly thought that Blood Moon's army was just weaklings, so the word protest turned into a riot. The enslaved people with mixed blood between humans and werewolves have the bold idea that they will overthrow Alpha Andrew and create a new pack just for hybrid werewolves like them. Ridiculous!

Because of that, I just appeared in this border area.

When I came here, I used strong force to suppress all the enslaved people. Almost half of the enslaved people died under my claws. Because of that, the people here, enslaved people or werewolves, are terrified of me. I left a deep impression in their hearts as the image of a bloodthirsty, ruthless demon.

"Make write me a detailed report of unrepaired and installed devices. I will solve the money problem." I say.

"Yes," Dante replied. Then he asked again, "how did the intruder deal? Will the search continue? There are currently no leads to investigate."

I thought a little bit. Suddenly remembering someone, I immediately got up and went to the window.

Beneath the grass, I saw Aliyah dozing beside a dry tree. The rays of the morning sun shining on her face added to her beauty even more.

For a moment, I was so mesmerized that I was dumbfounded. An absurd wish popped into my head: I wished I was that dry tree.

"Sir Charles!" Dante's loud voice jolted me awake.

'Damned! What the hell is wrong with me?' I thought silently.

'She is our mate. You won't be able to resist her charm. Admit it, Charles, you'll like her.' Ryan advised me. It still wants me to accept Aliyah as our mate.

I ignore Ryan, turning to Dante, "no need to look for intruders anymore. Please add more guards at night. You go do your thing, by the way; call Ashe to see me."

A few minutes later, Ashe rushed over. Her forehead was beaded with sweat, her breathing ragged, and her voice worried, "What's the matter with you looking for me, sir?"

"The slave I asked you to do the other day, how is the current arrangement?" I ask.

"I arranged for her to do the weeding job as you requested. I also punished her for not eating if she didn't finish the job. She is probably still busy with weed now. There is a problem. What's the matter, Sir?" Ashe answered while secretly observing my expression.

"Busy with weed? Really? You should come to see for yourself." I said in a cold voice with a bit of bass.

Ashe was startled and didn't understand what I meant. Worry and insecurity were evident on her face. After a few seconds of being frozen, Ashe understood what I meant. She went to the window and looked down at the lawn below.

"How dare she..." she growled, but she knew I hated noise, so she kept quiet. Perhaps she did not think that Aliyah would dare to sleep while time working like that. No enslaved person dared to be so lazy.

"I'm sorry, Sir. I didn't supervise her. I will punish her severely." Ashe said hastily. She fears I will get angry because she does not manage the enslaved people properly.

"Order her to change into clean clothes and come see me. I have something to interrogate her."

"Yes, Yes!" Ashe replied and immediately left.

I stood at the window, staring at Aliyah sleeping well in the grass. How could a hunter like her let down her guard like that? Or maybe she lost her memory and didn't fake it, as I had speculated.

A few minutes later, Ashe took a bucket of a murky water like dirty water to the lawn. Her face was sullen and angry. She must have been mad that Aliyah was sleeping during work hours, so she wanted to take her anger out on Aliyah.

Ashe directly splashed water on Aliyah's face and threw the bucket over her head. Looking at that situation, an uneasy feeling appeared in my heart. Ryan also howled indignantly. I felt it wanted to go out and tear Ashe to pieces.

I tried to control my emotions and denied being interested in Aliyah.

I feel Aliyah is a stupid hunter. She is the worst hunter I know. Even the most essential thing for a warrior is to be on guard, which she cannot do. Perhaps that hunter organization could only produce trash like her.

'Don't be stubborn, Charles. I know you are interested in Aliyah. She is our mate. You have to protect her.' Ryan broke my thoughts.

I ignored Ryan and left the window. I didn't want to look at Aliyah any longer because I was afraid I couldn't control my emotions.

I left the office and went to the bathroom. I wanted to use the cold feeling of the water to freeze my confused emotions.
