Chapter 3: My Mate is a hunter.

Serena said many things. She truly believes that I am entirely amnesiac. Her innocence and kindness made me feel so guilty that I had cheated on her.

Through Serena, I also learned some helpful information. The place I'm in is the logging area of the Black Moon pack. This place is close to the border of the human race.

Why is Charles here? An essential character like him should be in the pack's center.

I also know Serena's identity. She is a hybrid between a human and a werewolf. I'm not surprised by this news because humans and werewolves do not accept people like Serena. They could only live in the border areas and work as enslaved people. Serena being a doctor is already a good job.

"Usually, prisoners like you are tortured to death. You even injured Sir Charles, but you were brought here for treatment. You should feel lucky for that." Serena spoke as if this was a miracle.

I smirked mockingly. She was behind me so that she couldn't see this smile. Should I feel lucky that I was brutally tortured?

"Done! You rest. Don't move too hard, or the wound will tear again. I'll go get you some food and water." Serena collected her medical supplies and stood up.

I smiled and lay on the bed, waiting for Serena to leave. Then, I carefully sat up again and went to the window; outside was a dark green forest. In the distance, the howls of wolves and the screams of enslaved people resounded across the sky. I decisively closed the door tightly; the echoes outside were also blocked. My heart feels very down.

I am still determining the exact direction to return to human territory. On top of that, even though this place is close to human settlement, the distance is close to a hundred kilometers. It would take half a day if I only used two legs to run there, including the rest time. At that speed, the werewolf could catch me at any moment. I fear that before I return to human territory, the werewolves will tear me to pieces.

But I can't just stay here and wait to die. Soon they will return here and take me back to that gloomy cell.

After thinking for a while, I left this room to check. If I make it through, I can quietly escape.

...

*POV Charles

'I want to meet my mate. My Mate! Our Mate! See her!' Ryan kept howling in my head.

"Silent!" I growled in response. I can't accept that my mate is a human.

The image of the girl with reddish brown hair, blue eyes as clear as seawater, a sharp gaze, and an ice-cold face flashed in my memory. Even though the cell was dark, I could still clearly remember every line of her face.

I am twenty-two years old this year. The other werewolves in my pack found their mates when they were eighteen. I don't even think I have a mate and don't need one. Love for me is only a weakness, a fatal weakness.

How good it would be if she never showed up. I have a feeling she will turn my current life upside down.

'I want to meet my mate. If you don't let me see her, I'll kill you!' Ryan growled menacingly.

I feel so frustrated. Ryan has always been obedient before, but now he dares to mess with me because of a human. Even if she's our mate, that's not allowed.

Ryan and I had a heated argument. Then, a knock on the door interrupted our tense situation.

"Come in!" I lowered my voice.

The door opened, and it was Serena who entered. I wasn't surprised because I ordered Serena to inform me of the other girl's situation.

"Sir, she has regained consciousness but lost her memory..." Serena's voice trembled and stammered.

Everyone here is afraid of me. When they faced me, they always stooped and trembled as if facing a terrifying demon.

"Memory loss? Really?" I doubt asked.

"I...don't know! The wound on her head... was very severe and... she said she couldn't remember anything... not even her name, so... I thought she was telling the truth..."

I smiled coldly in my heart. I don't believe she can lose her memory so quickly. She may be lying to find a way to escape.

"Is there anything more important?" I ask.

"She has... has a tattoo on her left waist... it's angel wings..."

I was a bit startled. All werewolves know that an Angel organization specializes in training werewolf hunters in human territory. Each hunter has a tattoo of angel wings on his body.

Even though hunters only hunted Rogues that illegally entered human territory, just thinking about those lowly humans who dared to kill my kind always made me hate them.

Why is my mate the enemy I hate the most? It's ironic! Is fate toying with me? Just because I thought I didn't need my mate because mates were such a nuisance, did the moon goddess punish me by giving me an enemy to be a mate? Damned!

A sudden burst of anger made me slam my hand on the table. The loud noise made Serena even more scared. Her body trembled.

I yelled, "Get out!"

"Yes... yes..." Serena immediately rushed out and closed the door.

Maybe Ryan also knew I was mad, so he didn't dare to moan.

I opened the file cabinet, searching for the file about the hunters.

Humans and werewolves are constantly quietly gathering information from each other. To obtain useful information, each side has to pay a hefty price.

The file was tucked away in the corner of the cabinet; the thick dust showed it had been abandoned for a long time. Hunters weren't allowed to enter werewolf territory, so werewolves didn't seem to care about them either. Only when needed do they rummage through the material to find out?

I turned the pages until I saw the girl's face. My fingers skimmed the text, and I whispered, "Aliyah, sixteen years old, is the adopted daughter of scientist Joshua (head of the Angel Foundation)."
