Chapter 8

How things unfolded stuck in her throat.

Anne could not believe that Jean could remain so calm when she was exposed for cheating on her fiancé.

Her nails sank into the skin of her palms as she looked in jealousy at Jean, who became the center of attention.

She pushed her way to the front and separated the reporters from Jean. She turned her face so that those cameras captured the tears in her eyes. “What do you all want? Leave Jean alone! It’s true that she didn’t come to our bachelorette party last night, but that didn’t mean she was cheating on Patrick. How can you guys say that?”

There was a tumult among the reporters. Was this not indirectly admitting that Jean had cheated on her fiancé last night? What explosive news! Both the bride and groom had cheated on each other.

Anne was nicknamed the Goddess of First Love. She had a good temperament. No dirt had been dug on her so far. So, unlike Jean, what she said seemed to have more credibility.

“So, you mean Jean really has a lover?” Those reporters swarmed around Anne.

“Who is that man? Is he an artist, too?”

Anne looked panicked. “What are you talking about? I-I-I didn’t say that. Jean has a close male friend, but they are not what you all think.”

She pretended to shiver with fright and backed away.

Jean frowned. She appreciated Anne for standing up for her, but what Anne said sounded weird.

But there was no time to think. She grabbed a reporter’s microphone and said aloud, “Whether I have a lover or not is none of your business. The wedding is canceled. I was too blind to see that this man was trash. I don’t want to become a recycling station. We are done. He is not worthy of me. I am dumping him.”

She pointed at Patrick and Selena from some distance away, separated by the crowd. “From now on, you two had better take a detour whenever you see me. I paid for your house, movies, and car. Now, I want the money back with interest. Otherwise, I will sue you for bankruptcy.”

Patrick wanted to say something, but he flinched upon seeing the deadly look in Jean’s eyes. He grabbed Selena’s hand, turning around, and they both left.

But Selena was indignant. She looked back and yelled, “Who do you think you are? You are nothing more than a slut!”

Jean sneered, staring at Selena, as if she engraved that person in her mind.

She glanced at the reporters. “Is there anything else you all want to ask? Maybe you all shouldn’t ask, as I will not answer your questions. Move over.”

Those reporters gave way to her.

She walked through them and left with her head held high.

She was prideful and unyielding.

After Jean left, Jenny stopped the reporter. “We are sorry. Jean is stressed out today. She didn’t know what she was saying. We will hold a press conference in two days to explain the situation. We’re sorry.”

Anne was following Jean out. “Wait for me, Jean.”

Jean turned around and stopped, waiting for Anne to catch up.

Anne’s hands were on her hips, catching her breath. There was an upset look on her face. “Why are you walking so fast, Jean? That jerk must be blind to betray you and sleep with Selena. Eventually, he will regret it. Anyway, it is good to know his true color sooner rather than later.”

Jean saw Anne being on her side and suddenly questioned herself for being suspicious of Anne. She probably overthought. Anne was not the one who set her up last night. Perhaps it was Selena. Otherwise, how did Selena know what happened to her last night?

As Anne waved her hands in frustration, Jean squinted and saw the diamond bracelet on her wrist.

The sparkle of the diamonds and the design of the bracelet told her that this piece of jewelry was super expensive, not something Anne could afford with her current income.

“What a nice bracelet!” She commented casually.
