Chapter 16

Laurence went to the balcony to make a call. Zoey stared at his slender back, feeling much calmer than she expected. She wasn't able to hear the conversation since she was too far away. However, she was still able to catch his expression. His usually stern face was relaxed as he spoke with a gentle smile. Zoey looked away silently and clutched the bedsheets tightly as her heart tightened painfully. A few minutes later, Laurence finally hung up, and Zoey, who usually held back quite well, could no longer do the same tonight.

She turned to Laurence, lips pressed tightly together, and asked, “Is Sarah back?”

Zoey had already heard of Sarah’s return to the country from others. After all, Sarah has always been in the spotlight and was well-liked by everyone. As soon as Sarah landed at the airport, their classmates had begun welcoming her enthusiastically. Wearing a dark robe that bared his chest, Laurence stared at Zoey with a suffocating gaze.

“Yes.”

Hearing that, Zoey remained quiet. Sh
