Chapter 15

Laurence called his driver and told him to bring the car around. Zoey grabbed his sleeve and forced herself to endure the pain.

“I really don’t need to go to the hospital. I think I’m just on my period.”

Laurence thought for a moment.

“If I remember correctly, it shouldn’t happen now.”

Even though their marriage was fake, its consummation was real. Laurence was a man who had needs, and those needs weren’t easy to satisfy. Occasionally, he wouldn’t be able to do anything when she was on her period. Zoey hadn’t expected him to remember that. She averted her gaze so that she wouldn’t need to lie directly to him.

“My period has been irregular lately.”

Laurence nodded. He pressed a hand to her forehead to check her temperature. It was normal. Then, he carried her into the bedroom. Zoey lay on the bed, reluctant to move, as the pain in her stomach subsided. Only then could she relax slightly. Laurence found some painkillers from the first aid kit and handed them to her.

“Eat some before you
