Chapter 42

  After dinner, David was picking grapes in the yard when he heard a knock on the door. He’d thought it was a neighbor, but when he opened the door, it was Michael.

Upon seeing him, Michael’s eyes welled with tears.

David looked away, \"Now that you’re here, come in. I just picked some fresh grapes.\" David entertained him like an old friend, pouring tea, washing fruits, thoughtful and polite, but Michael was not happy with this at all.

For a time, he had only wanted David to live well. But now, he wanted David back. He wanted them to be in love again. But Michael did not dare say it.

The grapes were very sweet and the juice was full.

\"Have you had dinner?\"

Michael hadn’t eaten. He had rushed over as soon as he had heard that David was in Moshi. He barely rested on the way.

David walked into the kitchen.
