LOVE ACROSS THE DIVIDE: 002

Getting past the guards was not all that difficult, mostly because they were in a pack meeting with my dad, and no one would actually be expecting me to sneak out in the middle of the day.

The city was buzzing with lots of activities. People selling, getting to work’ etcetera, etcetera

I’ve always loved this so much. Watching every one, how busy it gets, lots of people associating and interacting with each other. And it's always being a joy to explore. But that has become near impossible since my mum died and my dad decided that I should be a prisoner in my own father’s house.

Princess my ass.

I waited by the road, my hoodie cap over my head and eyes covered with a huge sunscreen as a disguise.

I flagged a black taxi, and told the driver where I was going.

“Roger that ma’am” the man replied and I breathed a sigh of relief when I got in and noticed he was a human.

With where I am going, a werewolf would get suspicious.

“Buckle your seatbelt Dorothy.” The driver said and I chuckled.

The drive took more than twenty minutes, but it was a very fun one too. The driver who looked like he was in his mid-thirties had a very good sense of humor and was a chatterbox too.

He kept me entertained with stories about his little son. It was very obvious how much he loved his little boy, from the way he kept talking about him.

I don’t remember the last time I’ve had a normal conversation with anyone.

“we are here ma’am” he said, bringing the vehicle to a halt slowly.

I got down and handed him a hundred dollar note, and he stared at me in astonishment.

“Please keep it” I said before he could say anything, and his eyes widened further.

“Thank you so ma’am. Thank you.” He gushed on and on, before driving off, leaving me alone in a very empty environment.

The Lycans domain, at the very far end of the city

It was quiet. Too quiet if you asked me. The place almost looked deserted, apart from the big shop I could see from afar.

But apart from that, everywhere else looked empty.

This was not much. At least not as big as our side of the city. I could only see two streets, each with about five small houses.

A small community. Nice.

My wolf jumped up in excitement and I had to frown a little.

Why on earth is she suddenly interested in the Lycans?

Taking in a very deep breath and releasing it, I crossed the road.

Well here goes nothing.

After crossing the road, I waited for a few moments to see if I could notice any sign of life, but nothing at all.

The street was a little dark and lonely, but I could tell that the Lycans still lived here from the smell that filled the room.

So, I would not say it was that lonely at all.

I strolled through the street, staring at the beautifully designed houses.

The problem now was who would I go to if there was no one here?

Well I guess I don’t have to worry about that anymore. I thought when I caught a faint smell that almost had me cringing.

Someone was following, and trying their best to stay hidden but not doing a very good job at it. Lycans. I’ve always heard stories of their bravery and courage, but this one has no idea who she was about to mess with.

Pretending I could not hear the footsteps getting closer, I kept walking slowly down the street, admiring the fine architecture of the houses as I went. Then I stopped in front of a house, not because I wanted to give in, but because I wanted to give my follower a chance to show herself.

I waited for a few seconds then rolled my eyes when I heard the familiar sound of bones cracking and a purr.

Then I turned around just in time to see a huge white furry body launching at me with bared fangs.

I caught it easily with two hands and flung it away against a wall and automatically crouched, ready to defend myself.

The animal easily caught itself before it could land on the floor and stared at me angrily.

I had to take a moment to admire this creature before me.

A Lycan.

I have never seen one before now, and it does not look much different from a wolf, just a few distinguishing features like the size.

A white Lycan, with beautiful blue eyes that were burning with rage.

Was this something common with Lycans?

You can hardly see a white werewolf in our pack. And that was what made me special and different from the rest.

I stared into the blue eyes staring and I felt a wave of familiarity.

“listen,” I called out as the Lycan started advancing towards me. “I’m not here for any problem, okay? You have an advantage over me here. Clearly you guys can turn whenever you want to, which is really beautiful. But I can easily tear your limb by limb and do my nails at the same time”

The animal kept staring at me wearingly.

“I can give it a trial if you want. But trust me it won't end well for you. So why not turn back so we can talk like grownups?”

The Lycan stared at me for a moment and then crouched to a sitting position.

I waited for a few moments, yet nothing. It just kept staring at me with a tilted head as if it was waiting for me to do something.

Then I got it.

“oh right,” I muttered and turned around, facing the wall.

Personally, I don’t like people watching me turn. It was like an intimate moment for most of us.

I kept my back turned, also making sure that I was on alert in case this Lycan decided to try anything stupid.

And then I heard bones cracking, and a few groans, and suddenly the stench of Lycan reduced.

“You can turn around now” A throaty female voice said and I smiled before turning around to see a lady, a very naked lady.

“uhm…. you seem to be naked” I said awkwardly and the lady rolled her eyes.

“That’s what happens when you turn sweetheart.” She remarked and I nodded, still feeling very uncomfortable.

I took off my long jacket and handed it to her but she just gave me a scoff.

“I don’t want wolf stench all over me” She said and I nodded in understanding.

I stared at her frowning face that was almost covered with her wet long curly hair, and her blue eyes which weren’t as bright as it was a few minutes ago.

But those eyes…suddenly it came to me. Wait a fucking minute.

“jane?” I almost not believing it. She just folded her arms across her breast and tilted her head to me. Bitch. She knew it was me.

“Oh my God I can’t believe it's you right now. You are a Lycan?’

Hell, I never thought she was anything other than a human.

Jane was the only friend I had growing up. She was that foster kid everyone made fun of, but my only friend as a child. We played together and everything, but the last time I saw her was after my mother died.

“What are you doing here Pierce?” She asked dryly, obviously not sharing my excitement, but I don’t care. It's not everyday you see your only friend for the first time after ten years.

“I missed you, and I came to see you?” I said, giving her wide grin and batting my eyes, but she did not find it funny.

“Try again Lora, and this time get straight to the point” She said

I sighed. “I need help Jane, serious one”

“And that is our problem, how? I mean what happened to the whole werewolves pack that you had to come all the way here seeking help”

“I don’t know who to trust.” I whispered, almost ashamed that I had to say that. Because the pack I was supposed to lead one day in the future, yet I cannot even get a single respect from anyone. “One of them is trying to kill me”

Jane’s face softened a bit. “What is wrong Lora?”

I told her everything that had been going on, about the letters and everything in between, and my wolves had insisted I come here.

“Damn wolves,” Jane muttered angrily, “Always bragging about loyalty but they are nothing more than backstabbers”

I said nothing at that because I was not even in a position to try to defend my pack. She is right.

“What I don’t get is why they would go after their own. What do they have against you?”

I shrugged my shoulders. “Beats me. I have no idea”

Jane’s brows furrowed for a few seconds then she stared straight into my eyes. “You are an enemy Lora.” She said,

“No, I’m not Jane. There is a feud between the two clans that is older than any of us living. But are we going to keep letting that define our relationship...? We are friends Jane.”

“Were. We were friends, not anymore. And where were you when I needed a friend the most? Off princessing with mummy” Jane snapped angrily and I frowned.

“What do you mean?”

“Never mind Lora. You made a big mistake coming here. Honestly”

“I know that. But I can sense that you are going to help me nevertheless. And you believed me. Why?’

“Let’s just say that you are not the only one with a stubborn animal instinct” She said and frowned. “I don’t know how exactly we are going to be helped, but somehow I can sense that you were meant to be here. It's almost as if Fate brought you here herself”

Jane replied.

“Thank you so much for believing in me , Jane.” I said releasing a breath I didn’t know I was holding.

“Trust me Lora. You can’t lie to me even if you tried” She said and I didn’t bother to ask her what she meant.

“So, come on in with me. Let us wait for the others to get here”
