Derrick smiled but he knew Rose was right, if he had been a little brave, he and Lily would have been together but well maybe their love was never meant to be.

Derrick spent some time with his children before leaving for his apartment. He decided to stay around for a while before going back to Washington.

In his apartment, he stood in the living room recalling memories of himself and Lily. His eyes shifted to the dining and he remembered the first time he had cooked for her. He recalled the good time they had.

He went up to the bedroom. He opened the door and the familiar fragrance that used to greet him when she was in the room was no longer there. He scanned the room and the dressing table still had her stuff on it. He opened the closet and her clothes were still in there. Neither she nor he returned to the apartment after she was rushed to the hospital.
