Chapter 2

Hannah's POV

It was a tiring day, so I decided to go back to our house first and wait for my parents there. And when they got home, they heard what had happened, and they were worried about me.

"Don't do that again, Hannah. You don't know how dangerous that was," my mum scolds me. I cannot blame them if they reacted this way.

"I'm sorry, mum, but I just didn't know what to do," I said. But just like what I thought a while ago, my parents insisted on sheltering the survivor. They planned to visit him to see how he was. Is he now conscious? Hope so. I went along with my parents to Ashton's house to check on the survivor.

When we reached their house, I saw the way Miriam looked at my parents. My parents looked at her the same way. There is something in their glances and I do not have time to know whatever it is, because the only thing that is on my mind right now is the current condition of the survivor. So when my parents and Miriam went out, and they said they just had to talk about something, I went to the blonde guy's bed and Ashton was sitting on the edge of the bed.

"How is he?" I asked, nodding my head to the stranger.

"He's doing good. I was just thinking about bringing him to the hospital, so we can be sure about his safety," Ashton suggested, and I shook my head. I don't think it is a good idea.

"The nearest hospital is five hours' drive away. His condition might get even worse if we travel with him that long," I said.

"I was thinking the same too. That's why I decided to just bring here all the things that he will be needing while recovering from the accident. It would take a long period of time before he can fully recover. That's for sure," Ash said, staring at the guy who was still lying on Ashton's bed with a bandage around his forehead. That might be a really hard slam.

--

The next day, the survivor was transferred to our house. And I was the one in-charge of taking care of the blonde guy today. His name is Luke because it was on his ID that Ashton found in his wallet. But we were not able to get his last name because some parts of the ID were damaged.

Since Ashton is a student, he will be gone for the whole day. So I'll take care of Luke alone because my parents will be at work too. I get a basin with warm water and dip a towel, then damp it to his face and down to his neck. Even though he had dirt on his face yesterday, he's obviously a handsome man. And I was proven right when I saw him clean this morning.

He looks like he's just sleeping. I got his arms and rubbed them with a towel. I wonder how he is feeling right now? Does he know that I'm doing this to him? My excitement about him waking up makes me shiver. What would be his first reaction?

But the mystery question right now is, who is Luke? What kind of person is he? A good one? Or a bad one? Well, I guess it's the first one. He looks like an angel. I cupped his face without realizing what I was doing.

I saw his eyes move.

Oh my God! He's about to wake up. I stood on my feet and I didn't know what to do. I was just staring at him. His hand moved to his head and he groaned. Maybe because he can now feel the pain.

"Ugh..." he almost yelled out of pain. He sits up still holding his head and now with both his hands. I sat on the edge of the bed and face him.

"Do you want us to take you to the hospital?" I asked. I try not to panic, but his reaction makes me freak out. Especially when he didn't answer. His nose wrinkled, and he was obviously suffering from too much pain. I hold him on both of his shoulders, and he looks at me.

"Who are you?" he asked me.

"I'm Hannah, you're here in my house," I told him, so he could have an idea of what might happen. But his forehead wrinkled even more.

"How about me?"

"How about you? What do you mean, how about you?" I asked, confused.

"Who am I?" he asked and I slightly hold my breath. I stare at him and so is he. Doesn't he know his name? What's happening to him? Is he tripping on me?

"You don't know who you are?"

"I don't... I don't know anything. I don't remember anything." He sounded frustrated, so I tried to calm him down. I called Ashton and told him that Luke had woken up, and he said that he was on his way home. Thank God!

"How did I get here?" he asked when I gave him the medicine that Ashton gave me before he left when Luke woke up. He's now sitting on the edge of the bed with his feet on the floor.

"A helicopter crash," I said, and he looked at me.

"Seriously? Why am I here?"

"We looked for survivors, but we only saw you. You're the only survivor since the whole helicopter got burned right after we saved you," I explained, and he couldn't believe he survived. He even thanked us for saving him, but I gave all the credit to Ashton since it was all his idea.

"How's he?" Ashton asked as he walked into the door. He then eyed Luke. "Thank God!" he was so relieved to see Luke up.

"You must be Ashton?" Luke asked him and Ashton looked at me confused.

"I tell random stories, and we had small talk," I said and he nodded. "But I guess we had a problem...I mean a huge problem," I informed him, and he looked at me intently.

"What is it?"

"He can't remember anything," I said, and he didn't answer for a while.

"I already knew this could possibly happen. That plane crash was so tragic, and he's so lucky that his memory loss is the worst thing that happened to him," Ashton said, and he walked towards Luke.

"Why can't I remember anything?" Luke asked him as he looked up to Ash who was standing in front of him.

"I guess you're suffering from amnesia. We should take you to the hospital," Ash said to Luke, but he shook his head.

"I don't have enough money to undergo medical check-ups. I don't even know if I'm capable of paying the two of you for saving me," he said, and Ashton tapped him on his shoulder.

"About us saving you, don't mention it. And about hospital bills, we can earn that." Ash stood up and walked out the door, so I started feeding Luke because he still couldn't do it on his own.

"Is he your boyfriend?" Luke asked me and I laughed at his question, which made him frown. "What's funny?" he asked, confused.

"Nothing, I just got used to that question. That's why it sounded like a joke to me," I said, and he smiled.

"So, no?"

"No, he's my best friend. Childhood friend," I said, and he just nodded.

"I wonder if I have a best friend, too. Or even just a friend. Not necessarily a best friend." Luke smiled, but he was obviously lost. I pity him. I can't imagine myself losing my memory. My memories are my treasure and I just can't afford to lose them.

"Who in this world does not have a friend? Everyone has a friend. So probably you have too," I said, trying to ease his pain.

When he was done eating, I went out of our house, so he could take a nap. I saw Ash on the shore and looking at the sea. I didn't know what he was thinking, so I did not hesitate to ask him. "Hey, something's bothering you?" I asked as I sat next to him on the white sand.

"Nothing, I'm just thinking of ways on how to help Luke recover as fast as he should," Ashton replied.

"You're really concerned about him," I stated the obvious and he nodded.

"I don't know why, but I have an enthusiasm to help him," Ash said. He's two years older than me. That's why he thinks more mature.

"But we don't know who Luke was before that helicopter crash." I reminded him and he sighed.

"Yeah, a little care is needed," he said, and I couldn't agree more.

--

Days had passed before Luke recovered physically. He can now walk with his crutches but no more bandages on different parts of his body.

"Are you alright?" I asked Luke when I was about to enter our house. It's nearly 6 in the morning and my parents have just left for work. Then I saw Luke having a hard time walking. He probably wants to go to the shore?

"Yeah, I'm fine. I guess?" then he smiled awkwardly. I walk towards him and help him to go wherever he walks. I helped him get to the shore, and I was right that this is where he was really heading. It's cold, and he's only wearing Ashton's thin tank top.

"I'll just get you a sweater" I said, then left. I just pulled out my oversize sweatshirt that I think would fit him. I went back to him and handed him my sweatshirt.

"Thanks..." He said and I just smiled. The sun is about to rise. "When I woke up, Ashton was nowhere to be found inside the house," he tells me as he is trying to put the sweatshirt on. Luke is already living in Miriam's house so that Ashton can look after him often.

"He's always on a medical mission, that's why. One more semester before he graduates from nursing," I said, so proud of my best friend.

"He's really a good man. How about you?" he asked me.

"I'm a filmmaking graduate."

"Oh, you're a graduate then," he smiled.

"Yea, and I'm planning to go to Manila next month to find luck," I told him some of my plans, and he slightly cheered me because it was a great plan according to him.

"No matter how much I love to tell stories about myself the way that you always do, I just can't do so because I really can't remember anything," he joked, and he failed miserably. He was obviously so upset.

"Don't be silly. Don't force yourself to remember anything if you can't. Your memories will be back soon," I said, and he just smiled. "I'll go ahead. I have to fix some things." He nodded and I walked away from him. Ashton said that he wouldn't be home for lunch, so I will have to cook well for Luke and only me.
