Safety

I make sure Caleb is gone when I wake up the next morning before making a call to the Herber Springs police department to let them know where Noah’s body was. Not only that, but I also told them who I was and where Caleb was holding me hostage. I had realized that night I couldn’t save my baby, but I could save myself. Caleb was the reason I had lost my child, not mine. I had tried to get him to take me to see a doctor multiple times and he wouldn’t.

“Okay Hanna I need to know where you are at,” Detective Lancaster asked me. “I believe I’m in the next town over I’m just not sure what the address is,”

“It’s okay, we can trace this phone number and figure out where you are but you need to stay on the phone until we get the location. Can you do that?”

“Yes,”

I hear him telling the other officers what he needed

them to do. “I promise Hanna we will find you and get you out of there,” He promises me. Then he starts talking to me getting all the information about what happened to me and why I believe that Caleb had killed Noah. I tell Detective Lancaster everything that has happened to me from the first day I was kidnapped all the way to what happened last night. I broke down again while I was telling him about my miscarriage it was hard to get the words out.

True to his word Detective Lancaster got the address of where I was and sent the police. They also sent a couple of cops to pick up Caleb at his work. The look on their faces when they came inside the house and saw me. I still had the shackle around my ankle. They had to call a locksmith to come to take it off of me. When they took the shackle off of me was the first time I actually saw that it had left a ring around my ankle from it being on me for so long. You know, just like you get from wearing a wedding ring for years.

The EMTs loaded me up in the ambulance then rushed me off to the hospital. I get my own room with a policeman to stand guard just so I’ll be safe. I’m relaxing when a nurse comes in. “Hi, my name is Anette. I’m sorry to bother you, but the doctor has ordered some blood tests,” She says as she snaps on a pair of gloves. After she gets done filling up four vials of my blood I start to feel dizzy and nauseous. “Ugh, I don’t feel so well,” I tell nurse Anette. “Just lay back and take some deep breaths,” She says as she wets a cool, wet cloth then places it upon my

head. “I’ll have someone bring you some juice in it will help with your nausea,”

Just within a few minutes of her leaving my room, another nurse comes in carrying a cup of orange juice and a blueberry muffin. “Here you go if you need anything else just let me know,”

“Thank you,”

After eating my muffin and drinking the juice I felt so much better.

Detective Lancaster and his partner, Detective Quinn come into my hospital room. “How are you feeling Hanna,” Detective Lancaster asked as he walks beside my bedside. “I’m feeling better, thank you,”

“Hanna we came by to let you know that we did find a body and your phone in the pond. Unfortunately, when we got the DNA test back we found out that it wasn’t your husband's body,”

“What do you mean it wasn’t his body? I saw him shoot Noah then I heard him, throw him into the pond,”

“I know you did Hanna we believe you,”

“What Detective Lancaster is trying to say is that we believe that you heard something heavy thrown into the water, but we believe your husband is still alive,” Detective Quinn clarified. Detective Lancaster looked over at her with a disapproving look. “Hang on, what do you mean you think Noah is alive Detective,” I ask looking at Detective Quinn. If someone was going to tell me the truth about what the hell is going on it seems to be her. Detective Quinn raises one eyebrow as if she is asking for permission as she

looks over at Detective Lancaster before she answers me. “Yes we do, we only found your blood at the cabin and what we believe to be Caleb’s blood,” I sat there in my hospital bed. I swear I felt my jaw drop. Is she really telling me that my husband that I saw get shot is still alive? How is this possible? Detective Quinn continues. “We also did some blood testing on Noah and Caleb’s blood and we found something interesting plus quite dangerous. Your husband and Caleb are brothers,” I was about to reply except she put her finger up for me to shut up because she wasn’t done. “ The dangerous part of this is that they are drug dealers; they are part of the Reza family,”

I’m clearly terrified, confused, just plain freaked out. Next thing I know everything gets blurry. “Hanna? Hanna? Are you okay? Nurse Anette asked as she dabs a cool cloth on my forehead. “Hmm, what...what happened,” I mumble. “You passed out,” Detective Langston explained. “She is under a lot of stress, plus she has just had a miscarriage. I think it’s time for you to go. Hanna needs her rest,” She tells them as she orders them out of my room. I am left to my thoughts. I can’t believe Noah is alive. He left me there to be tortured and raped by Caleb, his brother. Noah is Caleb’s brother on top of that they are part of the Reza drug family what the fuck! Just like last time I got dizzy, then pass out. I didn’t even hear my heart rate monitor go crazy, but the nurses at the nurse’s station did and ran into my room to help me calm down. They take my blood pressure, which by

the look on the lady's face is bad. She then puts some medicine into my port.

I don’t know what the nurse gave me, but it relaxed me so much that I fell into a peaceful sleep. Well, not totally peaceful I ended up having a nightmare about me confronting Noah with all the questions that I have on my list. When I was standing face to face with him, they had all come pouring out of me. “ Why didn’t you tell me you and Caleb were brothers, not just brothers but your part of the Reza drug family,” I yelled at him. Noah just stands there stone-faced. Not moving, not flinching, not answering me. “Noah answer me! Why did you do this to me! Why did you let Caleb do this to me! I screamed at him. Still, he stands there and says nothing.

I woke up pissed off crying my eyes out with sweat pouring off of me even though just hours before I was freezing. I push my covers off of me as I push the button for the nurse’s station. “Yes, ma`am, what do you need,” The voice asked over the speaker. “I was wondering if someone could come to up the air conditioner in here I’m burning up,”

“Of course we will have someone come in and adjust it for you,”

“Thank you so much,”

Just a short time later a Nurse Anette comes in except she doesn’t adjust my air conditioner unit she scans my head with a thermometer. “Now I know why you think sixty-five degrees is too hot for you. You have a fever of a hundred and two. We are going to have to take some more blood to see what's wrong,” She

explained to me as she typed on the little computer in my room. “Just sit tight I’ll be right back,” Within a minute she returns carrying a container followed by another nurse who begins checking my vitals. Then another nurse comes in bringing me ice chips to help me cool down some. The way I feel I don’t think anything will cool me off anytime soon. Before she leaves to take my samples to get tested Anette smiles then says to me. “ I will be back in here in a few to check up on you, but if I’m not and you need something just push that button for the nurse’s desk okay,” I smile back at her “Okay,” I say.

I lay back snacking on my ice watching the tv when a news report comes on showing Noah and Caleb’s pictures. I hurriedly turned up the volume so I could hear what they were saying. It was something about how the police were looking for Noah for drug smuggling and that they had Caleb in jail for kidnapping plus drug smuggling and they were asking for the public's help to find Noah.

So it’s true Noah is still alive. I don’t understand how he could have left me there to be treated like an animal. But then I start thinking about Lacy. Where is she? Is she alive or did Caleb kill her? I automatically start yelling for the officer that has been sitting out in front of my hospital room from the moment I was brought in here. “Officer! Officer! I remembered something that might help with the case,” In a flash, he was standing in front of me. “You said you remembered something,” He asked, breathing hard as if I had scared the bejeezus out of him. “Well, not

really something, but somebody her name was Lacy she was married to Caleb. He had told me once months after he had taken me that he had divorced her, but now I’m starting to wonder if he, or should I say they had done something to her,” I confide in him. When he was done scribbling frantically in his notepad he looked up at me. “I’ll relay this to the detectives on your case and please just rest and get better. I heard that you have a very high fever,” My doctor walks into the room as he starts to head back to his post. “Actually, our patient here has an infection in her stomach from her miscarriage, that’s causing the fever,” He informs us. “I know why too Caleb wouldn’t take me to the doctor when I found out that I was pregnant and when I had the miscarriage,” I told him trying to swallow the lump in my throat so I wouldn’t start crying all over again. He looked at me solemnly. “Possibly,” is all he could say. “Right now what I’m going to do is treat this infection with a couple of antibiotic treatments, then hopefully you’ll be good as new alright. We have to worry about you now not what happened then, but now got it? We will leave the Then part to the detectives,” Dr. Drevits concludes. “Right, sounds good to me, I'm not ready to leave this world just yet,” I said, trying to sound cheerful even though I wasn’t really feeling it.
