Derrick's POV.

I cast a wary glance at the young boy beside me.

I saw a mix of curiosity and wisdom radiating from his innocent eyes.

This boy.

Ethan.

A mere ten years old told me something that I, a thousand-year-old werewolf, had overlooked for far too long.

The realization hit me like a sudden gust of wind, stirring the dark tresses of my fur.

I nodded slowly, absorbing Ethan's words.

"You're right, Ethan," I admitted, my voice sounding so grave from centuries of existence.

"I've roamed these lands for so long, it never occurred to me to return to Sophia's pack. Perhaps, I've grown complacent in my loneliness."

Ethan grinned up at me. I saw a gap-toothed smile that made him look childish. "Well, we're going there now, right? To find Sophia?"

I couldn't help but smile at the boy's eagerness.

"Yes, Ethan. We're going to find her, and hopefully, she's still there."

I readied myself and started the journey that day.
