Mystery...

Jayden’s POV

I sighed as I packed my black bike by the side of Foxtown’s beach. It was one out of the only two beaches in Foxtown.

It has come to be my favourite hangout spot over the past four weeks since my arrival.

I watched the waves crashing, and the wind blowing. Sometimes it was slow and tranquil, other times it was fierce and vigorous. I loved to swim on days when it was fierce, it was more of a challenge for me, something I did for fun.

I proceeded to find my favourite tree where I usually lodged, taking a full view of the lovely, empty beach.

I was told the folks here avoided this particular beach, and frequented the other, as they believe the ghost of a cold one, killed thousands of years ago by a great white, still lingered.

I found the story implausible and stupid when Eric narrated it to me.

I was just about to turn towards the path leading to my tree when I heard a low shuffling sound, my head snapped towards the direction it came from.

I knew I was walking among trees and grasses, and was bound to hear noises like that, but I was certain I had company, probably an unwanted one.

My senses were ten times sharper than any werewolf ever born, and I could see tiny things from miles away, the fact that I was a great white contributed to my abilities.

I slowly walked through the grasses like a wolf stalking its prey, and then I spotted the intruder, it was Uriel.

He seemed to be deeply focused on something else and did not notice my presence.

I approached him slowly, but then he sensed me and took off to the sea. I decided not to follow him as I knew the white ones could swim ten times faster than werewolves which gave them an advantage over us when it came to water.

I proceeded to find my tree, mourning the loss of yet another chance to catch Uriel, but stopped in my tracks as I remembered he had been staring at something.

I retraced my steps to where he had been standing, wondering what had caught his attention to the extent of making him lose his guard.

I caught sight of the back of a lady sitting on a log of dried wood surrounded by Ghost Orchids, their white petals glimmering in the setting sun.

Beside her sat a white wolf, its fur silk and long, unlike any normal wolf I had ever seen. She rubbed its back rhythmically, speaking to it in low tones that the wolf seemed to understand.

Something about her small figure, and her warm, appealing scent felt familiar but I couldn't grasp it.

I was sure I had never seen anything like this before, a werewolf and a wolf, together.

Curious, I took a step forward. The wolf immediately sensed my presence, and its head turned to me, a low growl erupting through its long, razor-sharp teeth.

It must have sensed I was a werewolf, and it did not attack me immediately, knowing I was twice as strong as it. Rather, it analyzed me carefully, planning its attack expertly.

“Ramiel, you'd scare him, it's fine”, the lady said to the wolf before turning slowly to face me.

I stared at the beautiful face of Jovita, stunned. “What was she doing here all alone, with a wolf by her side?” I asked myself. There was more to her than met the eyes, I concluded.

She looked surprised to see me, her delicate, perfect brow raising in confusion.

I felt my heart going wild with that single movement, and my wolf growled excitedly.

She looked delicately beautiful, the setting sun highlighting her features.

She had wavy, thick, long, black hair flowing down to her waist. A very little section of her hair was white. It matched perfectly with the white woollen sweater and black pants she was on.

She had a delicate heart-shaped face, with a pert, pointed nose, and plump, perfectly-shaped pink lips that complimented her delicate white skin. She had the strangest shade of turquoise eyes he had ever seen, they were bright and vibrant. Compared to her tiny frame, they stood out, intimidating whoever they were focused on.

And right now they were focused on me.

“What are you doing here?” she asked, her voice barely concealing the annoyance she felt.

I smiled, taking a step forward. She looked even more beautiful when she was angry.

Her wolf growled, reminding me of its presence.

“I should be asking you that question”, I said, enjoying the display of emotions on her face.

She was trying to prevent me from hearing her thoughts by thinking about many things at once.

I chuckled, wondering why she would go that far to stop me from hearing what she was thinking, did she have something she was hiding?

Probably yes, as she was in the middle of a feared and deserted beach, with a strange white wolf all alone. The sight had captivated even a cold one.

A part of me wondered why Uriel had stood staring, rather attacking her. Cold ones and werewolves were mortal enemies. She was a she-wolf and would have an easy prey for him since she had yet to wolfout. Yet he had just stood there staring at her. Why?

“This is my favourite spot, and you're the intruder here”, she said, cutting through my thoughts.

“I was after a cold one”.

I grinned satisfied to see the fear my words had instilled in her. She tried to conceal it, but it showed.

“Are you saying there was a cold one here?” She asked, her voice calmer than I expected.

“Yes, he stood watching you for a while, but left when he saw me”.

“Hmm, she replied with an indifferent shrug and started to walk towards the deeper parts of the woods.

I at stared her, perplexed and surprised about how much my wolf yearned to be near her.

She was meant to be scared, I had just told her a vampire had been watching her, but here she was heading into the woods, on a beach feared by both young and old.

I ran and caught up with her.

She looked at me surprised, looking back at where I had come from.

She was pondering on how impossibly fast I was.

“Can I help you?” She asked, looking confused.

“Who exactly are you, and why do I feel this way around you?” I asked, staring her dead in the eye, for I knew behind the stunning, innocent-looking Jovita lay a mystery I couldn't quite grasp.
