The two young pups were taken from the room by an older female werebear, leaving the grownups to sit and talk. Platters of food were brought to the table along with juice and water. My surrounding company began to pile their plates high, mates making up plates for their females.

In our Clan, it was every Lycan for themselves. I can’t remember once when my father fed my mother, never mind making up a plate for her. She would probably slap it out of his hand thinking it was poisoned if he did.

“You need to eat,” Rhett whispers in my ear, grabbing my folded hands beneath the table.

“I lost my appetite.” I lie. A low unhappy growl emanates from Rhett. I turn my head to look at him, only to see those green eyes staring at me intensely.
