RHETT Up the mountain and around the side we had climbed. Our eyes were ever watchful for those birds in case they came back for a second go. “This isn’t right.” Mason stops, looking at the map we had been given. “What’s not, right?” I asked him, pulling up next to the werecat. He turns the map in his hands from front to back then back to front. Then rotates it clockwise like he is desperately trying to figure something out. “This,” He says shoving the map in my hand. “It doesn't make sense.” I peer at it. Looking at the lines that were drawn for us. I frown, licking my lips as I study the piece of paper. “You're right. RHETT The sweet, now familiar, scent of a woodsy maple filled my nostrils. Assaulting my senses and causing me to falter. Sharp pointed teeth dug into my lightly fur-covered skin. Tearing through to the bone. I grunted and growled in pain. The bite burned and I desperately and angrily began stabbing at the creature who had latched on to me violently. “Mother fucker, take that!” I yelled when its grip on me finally loosened, and it fell away. Without warning or cause the creature suddenly backed off, slinking back into the darkness. I could still feel their presence, hear their hissing screeches, but they had retreated as if they feared something. Bright and blinding light illuminated the cavern. RHETT Two vehicles came to collect us in under an hour and transported us through the vast territory of MacTire and up to the castle entrance. The grey walls and medieval style of the castle gave me a sense of solace. I had truly missed this place. Travis and Josiah stood there waiting to greet us and welcome me home. RHETT Sleep evaded me. It usually did. They say when you can’t sleep there’s too much on your mind. Well, there was a fuck ton on my mind. That’s for sure. I should be used to it by now. I lay in my bed contemplating my next move. We would spend the day here in MacTire then leave for Mir the next morning. Of everything that was filtering through my brain I began to debate whether having the Lycans come with us was going to be a hindrance or beneficial. Though Leneve was easy on the eyes, to say the least, she could be trouble. On the other hand, she proved useful when walking through the mountain and if it wasn’t for her, I could be dead by now. RHETTI didn’t go back to sleep. Didn’t even bother trying. Instead, I went for a run, pulling on the strength of the knight to give me inhuman speed.Strangely enough, I felt stronger. Faster. RHETT It took us a little over a day and a half to reach the border of Mir and another half day to drive over the uneven terrain until we couldn’t take the vehicles any further due to how rocky and cut-up the ground was. We had taken two vehicles otherwise it would have been a tight squeeze with the six of us. I had somehow managed to convince Finn to drive with the Lycans. I wasn’t sure I could sit in an enclosed space with Leneve’s scent suffocating me. There was no way I would have been able to concentrate or think. She did that – fogged my brain. I knew why. She had told me, but I didn’t want to go down that road again. Once was enough and it’s not as if having a mate panned out for me before. No thank you. RHETT I see just what Mason was yelling about. Leneve lay in my arms as the others fought off the demon dogs. The nightmare horses amazingly had backed off but not too far. The creature that came from the shadows I now recognize as Senko’s children – Changelings. They jump and attack every spiked and ravenous hellhound they can sink their teeth into. With long claw-like nails, pale grey skin, mustard-colored eyes, and sharp little pointy teeth they move through the air like creatures of the night, sinking their tiny fangs into the hounds, killing them instantly. Finn, Mason, and the twin Lycans together, chop down as many as they can until the demon dog’s numbers deplete and they retreat. Running with whimpers as the Changelings chase them off. We all stand and watch, wondering what our next move is. Wondering what their next move is. Out of nowhere a large silver net with sparks of currents traveling through it is thrown over Finn.
