The Doctor removed his glasses, standing up and walking towards me to place a hand on my shoulder.

“…After that,” he continued. “A section of her skull will be removed to access her brain underneath and get to the tumor. Typically, it takes 6 hours to complete and there are risks but in Miss Emma’s case, a skilled neurosurgeon will be performing the surgery due to the complexity and number of years we had to wait for it. It will therefore reduce the possibility of bleeding, infection or any loss of mental functions but we will have to dissuade the use of anesthesia so it’s completely favorable.”

“Anesthesia? Isn’t that to relieve pains and induce sleep?”

“Yes... but,”

I stared at him in disbelief as he said those words, with an apologetic expression. It meant she will have to go through pain. The thought irked me. I wished I could do something.

“Impossible!”

I banged my hand on the table angrily, staring at the Doctor. Brain tumor? Smears of tears covered my eyes.
