Chapter 47

Ashley POV

After breakfast, I just wanted to be left alone to clear my head. All this stress was causing me a migraine. I took some pain relievers and sat on the balcony. I watched the children play and it reminded me of the time when King would sneak over to my house and hang out with me.

The uncertainty of my brother's whereabouts was nerve-wracking. I called and texted the number Trevor gave me, but no answer. Memories of my dreams returned and held his lifeless body clutched against my chest. I wished I had more time to get to know him, more time to be a better sister or more time to save him. Cringing from the memories, I climbed on the rails and jumped down off the balcony, landing on all four paws.

Amelia took off running full speed to this dreadful place called home. All my life I have avoided going back there. My mother has taken too much from me and I will not let her take my brother's life for helping me. It's me she wants.
