CHAPTER SIX

Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas

.

Chapter SIX

.

Atlas turned to Jesse and thanked him for bringing the bag. He shouldered it and said good night to the beta who tipped his hat before he went back to his post.

Anais clung to Atlas’ hand as the elevator opened and they stepped inside.

“Jesse is our usual night doorman. He’s friendly and good at his job. This is a well secured place, so you will be safe here.” Atlas looked down at her and Anais nodded.

She wasn’t sure what else to do or say.

She glanced down and realized that Atlas had pushed the button for the top floor.

Anais’s stomach sank. She wasn’t sure how much money Atlas had, but if they were going to the penthouse in this building, it was significant. She waited in silence. She tried to take deep inhales of Atlas’ scent and remain calm.

She knew she wasn’t succeeding when Atlas let go of her hand and pulled her into his side. Atlas wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close. Anais didn’t fight the urge to let herself lean on the alpha and she wrapped her own arms around his middle.

When the elevator dinged a moment later, Atlas didn’t let Anais go, as she thought he would. Instead he just stepped forward with Anais supported by his arm. Anais went with him without delay and her eyes widened at the sight that greeted her.

The elevator opened right into the apartment, but this wasn’t an apartment that Anais would ever expect in New York.

The foyer he had was large and open and Anais could see that it led into a living room. There was a kitchen beyond and a stairwell that led to another level upstairs. There was a hallway with more doors and Anais could see a beautiful terrace outside. Anais’s entire room at the club could fit into the foyer.

They stepped into a modern living room with a large leather couch and chairs that Anais thought looked incredibly uncomfortable. There was a large TV above the raised fireplace and a view out of the windows that was breathtaking.

Behind the couch was a table big enough to sit six people and beyond that was the entrance to the kitchen. She only caught a glimpse through the open door, but he could see a large island and stools sitting at it.

Everything was neat and clean and she wondered how much time Atlas spent here for everything to be so sterile. There were no dishes or dirty socks on the floor. There were no books or magazines or anything that made her think someone actually lived in the space.

“Let’s get you settled, then, alright?” Atlas asked her. Anais nodded and followed the alpha to the stairs.

There were many more doors up on the second floor than Anais thought there would be. Atlas must have noticed her surprise because he turned.

“There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms plus the master suite,” he told Anais. She swallowed hard and followed Cas down the hallway.

When they stopped at an open door in the middle of others, she was confused. She didn’t think the master bedroom would be hers. She quickly realized that Atlas had led her to an extra bedroom. She tried to keep her scent neutral but inside she was reeling again.

Part of her was relieved that Atlas wasn’t expecting her to jump right back into bed with him and she appreciated the alpha thinking about giving her some space while they got to know each other, but the other part, the mated omega part, only felt the rejection of being separated from her mate.

Maybe it was just as well. When Atlas got to know Anais, he would probably realize that he didn’t want to be mated to her anyway, so she shouldn’t get comfortable here.

Atlas put her duffle on the bed and turned to him. Anais tried to give him a smile but it felt brittle. She was exhausted and Anais knew it was affecting her ability to think clearly. The heat had taken a lot out of her and she had only eaten one meal a while ago. It was late, but she needed to eat and drink some water.

She knew that Atlas needed it too.

“Make yourself at home, here, Ana. This is your space and home now, too.” He looked around the room before looking back at Anais. “I hope you like it here. There are several others if you don’t.”

“Oh, no,” She was quick to reassure him. “This is wonderful, alpha, thank you.”

Atlas looked at him for a moment and Anais tried to smile. “Alright. Well, I’ll be downstairs if you need anything.”

She nodded and Atlas closed the door behind him.

Anais stared into the empty room.

ATLAS POV

Atlas closed the door softly to the room he had put Anais in and breathed deeply while he stood in the hallway. It had been a whirlwind since he woke up a few hours ago. He thought back to when he had first woken up.

When he had come to and realized his rut was over he had laid there and scented the air. He knew that the omega was awake by the scents she was emanating.

There was bewilderment, wariness, pain and then shock.

Atlas had watched the omega slap her hand against her neck and Atlas’ whole world narrowed down to the bite that was under her fingers. She had turned over and Atlas had been struck dumb by how beautiful she was.

She remembered little of the cycle they shared, but the way the omega had felt under him and around him made him shiver even now. She had been submissive and enthusiastic and Atlas’ perfect partner in every way.

He had needed a moment alone to get himself together and he thought that the omega, Anais, she had introduced herself, could use one too. He had stepped out of the room under the pretense of making calls but he really just wanted a minute to gather himself.

He was the alpha and he needed to be steady and strong. He could do that for her, but he needed to process this as well.

Anais had a claim on her neck that belonged to Atlas. It may not be the way that he anticipated mating, but he wasn’t the type of alpha to claim an omega and then leave them.

Breaking a bond like that would be excruciating for the omega and could lead to health problems and even death in some extreme cases. He would never do that to anyone.

He also realized that he had taken away Anais’s source of income as well. She had a bite on her neck and no other alpha would touch him, bond or not.

He needed a plan to take care of Anais.

He would take her home and they would stay mated. Atlas may not have wanted a mate, but he had one now and he had a responsibility to take care of her. Anais would be comfortable and happy away from this place and she would have anything she wanted or needed as Atlas’ mate.

Atlas felt confident in his plan and reached into his pocket for his phone to call his driver. Before he could punch in Alfie’s number, Ivy and a beta approached.

Ivy walked quickly down the hallway and her surprise at seeing him was evident.

“Alpha Atlas,” she greeted him.

Ivy Madeline was an alpha Atlas had known for a long time. He didn’t particularly like Dick Roman and he hated coming to his club, but Ivy had been someone that he enjoyed talking to.

She pulled no punches and wasn’t afraid to be aggressive when necessary. He also saw the way she treated the omegas and he thought, from his limited interactions, that they were well cared for.

Anais certainly looked healthy and whole.

There were no marks on her body from abuse and she was a healthy weight, if still on the thin side. He knew that all the omegas had their own spaces and places to sleep that were secure.

Seeing her slightly alarmed made Atlas’ alpha stand up at attention. He stood straight and nodded to her and her companion. “Ivy.”

“Hazel, can you go check in on Anais, please?” she asked the beta. The other woman smiled and slipped into the room.

Atlas heard the door swing half way shut and he looked at Ivy again.

“Is there something wrong?” he asked. He was back in control again. She met his eyes and gave him a nervous smile.

“Well, I’m not sure. I am surprised to see you out here,” she told him.

“It seems that our cycles have run their course. Thank you for taking care of us and for the inconvenience. I’ll make sure the bill is paid,” Atlas told her.

“Of course, Alpha Atlas. While I’m glad that you’re back on your feet, it has only been three days.” She gave him a meaningful look and Atlas knew what she meant.

“Oh,” he said. There was more information to process now. Not only had he mated an omega without remembering it or intending to, there was now a high chance that the omega was pregnant. “Alright, then, let’s…” He gestured back to the room and stepped forward to open the door.

When Atlas had heard the beta’s ugly words to Anais, to his mate, he had been furious. The vibrant and charming omega that Anais remembered was now hunched over and pulled in on herself as she had backed up against the wall. The beta’s words had had a negative effect on her.

Atlas’ sharp words and tone were nothing compared to what he was really feeling and he needed to get them out of the room and away from Anais quickly.

He needed to stay in control though.

He had food brought to them and they ate. He was glad to see that Anais ate well and had a good appetite. He stayed steady and strong for the omega when they confirmed that Anais had pupped and Atlas rearranged his plan in his head to include a nursery and pup.

He had felt that the best course of action was to get them out of the club as quickly as possible and home. There he would be able to settle Anais into one of the extra rooms where he would be comfortable and Atlas could check in with Gabe. He let Anais go to get her things and ushered her out of the door to the waiting car.

Anais seemed to alternate between utter shock and disbelief to worry and fear.

Atlas held his hand out to the omega and was pleased when she put her hand into Atlas’. They stayed that way until they got to his apartment.

Anais’s discomfort was obvious as they made their way into the building and up to the top floor. Anais didn’t say much and Atlas didn’t know what to say either.

He hoped that this wouldn’t overwhelm the omega, but Atlas’ lifestyle was something that Anais would need to get used to.
