CHAPTER SEVEN

.

Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas

.

Chapter SEVEN:

.

Atlas’ lifestyle was something that Anais would need to get used to.

There were certain expectations that came along with Atlas’s job and life.  The house was something Anais would be able to make her own and she would make friends with the other omegas in her circle.

Anais could do whatever she wanted now, instead of working.  Anais would figure it out and would be happy, she was sure.

Atlas wasn’t naive.  He knew that omegas didn’t sell their bodies if they had any other choice. Anais was young and he wondered how old she was.

Atlas wasn’t old by any means, but he was just past thirty, which made him older than the omega by at least a few years.

He was the president of a multibillion-dollar company that he ran with his brother.  The duffle bag that weighed nothing to him on his shoulder held all of Anais’s possessions in the world.

Atlas had quietly led Anais through the penthouse when they arrived.  He knew that she was looking around and taking everything in.  Her scent was all over the place, but Atlas remained calm.  He wanted her to be able to settle in and he knew that it would take some time.

Atlas thought it would be best for them to be in separate rooms for a while, just until they got to know each other a little better, so he put Anais in his favorite guest room.

The omega seemed surprised but grateful for his accommodations and Atlas didn’t know what else to do.  He had excused himself and now he was standing in the middle of his hallway trying to breathe.

He shook himself and turned to make his way down the stairs.  He had things to do and Anais needed some peace, so he would leave her alone.

He needed to call his brother and see what had happened to the company while he was rutting.

He wasn’t expecting to rut when he went to the club with Luke and Jovani, but Anais’s preheat scent had triggered it.

Atlas could tell when Anais stepped forward and Ivy had introduced her.

Atlas wanted her from the second he saw her, but so did Luke. They were there to make good on a business deal that wasn’t signed yet and Atlas needed to let Luke have her first.

Atlas nearly growled at the thought of another alpha touching his mate now.

Atlas didn’t care that Anais had worked for Roman.  It was rare for an omega to be pure in any sense of the word after their first heat, and often omegas had several partners before they were adults.  Heats were difficult to manage alone, so Atlas didn’t care much about before.  He did care about now though and the future.

Anais was his mate, regardless of how it had happened.  He would take responsibility for protecting the omega and providing for her.  He could feel the bond connecting them.  No other alpha would touch her now.

Atlas headed into his office and sat in his plush chair with a sigh.  It was late and he was exhausted.  He was thirsty and hungry but he needed to sort out a few things before he could eat or sleep.  He would let Anais unpack and then they would see about some food.  Atlas picked up the phone and called his brother even though it was almost midnight.

Jovani answered on the second ring.  “Baby bro!  I thought you were rutting?” he exclaimed.

Atlas chuckled.  It was almost too much for him to take in.  “I was,” he said.  “I did.  I’m finished though and home.”

“Wow, that was short.  Did the omega not measure up?  How did you tear yourself away from the delectable Anais?”

Atlas growled at his brother’s words and he could hear a sharp intake of breath on the other side of the phone.

“Atlas?  Is there something wrong?” he asked seriously.

He ran a hand down his face and sighed.  “There is nothing wrong, really, Jovani,” he told him.

“That’s reassuring,” he said sarcastically.  “What’s going on?”

“I mated Anais and she pupped.”

The shocked silence on the other end of the phone made Atlas cringe.  It sounded cliché in the worst way.  It was also irresponsible and completely out of character for him.

“Say something,” he demanded when his brother’s silence stretched out further.

“What do you want me to say, Atlas?  I mean, shit.  What?  You mated her and she’s pupped?”

“Yes.  It was an accident, obviously.  I don’t remember biting her.  The doctor that looked her over at the club said that she pupped early in the cycle, and that’s probably why my alpha mated her.”

“Oh, Jesus, Atlas.  Really, you don’t do things half way do you?” Jovani asked him.

“No.”

“So, what’s the plan?” Jovani asked.

“Currently, Anais is unpacking her one bag of belongings upstairs.  I don’t know what to do, Jovani.  I need some help here.  She’s obviously spooked and trying not to freak out.”

“I think you’re doing pretty well, here, Atlas.  It’s a big shock for me, I can’t imagine what you’re going through right now.”

He nodded even though Jovani couldn’t see him.  “But what do I do?” he asked.

“Just be yourself, Atlas.  There are lots of good qualities that you have and Anais would be a fool not to want to stay mated.  She will probably try and be on her best behavior so you don’t think about making her leave.”

“I would never, Jovani!” he nearly shouted.  He cleared his throat and lowered his voice.  “I would never kick him out.  She’s carrying my pup, Jovani.  She’s my mate.  We have some things to work out, but we’ll be fine.  She’s not going anywhere if I can help it.  She would be a fool to even think about leaving.  Where would she go?”

“I don’t know, Atlas, but I bet she’s probably floundering more than you right now.  She’s got a lot riding on this.”

“I know that, Jovani,” Atlas snapped.  “It’s been a challenging evening for the both of us.”

“Alright, Atlas,” Jovani reassured him.  “I can hold things down for a few more days if you need me to.  Things are fine at the office.”

“Thanks, Jovani.  I’m not sure how this is going to go.  I want Anais to feel comfortable here, but I don’t know how to do that.”

“Just be yourself, Atlas, it’ll be fine.”

“I’ll try.”  Atlas sighed and leaned back in his chair to grab a bottle of water from the mini fridge behind him.

“Did you call Mom and Dad?” Jovani asked him.

“No, you were the first call,” Atlas told him.  “I’ll call them next.”

He heard Jovani laugh on the other end of the line.  “That’s going to be a good call,” he said.

“Well, they are half way across the world, so I’m sure it will be fine,” He told him dryly.

“Alright, well I’ll let you get to it then.  Call me if you need anything and I’ll keep you in the loop.”

“Thanks Jovani,” Atlas told him before he hung up.

He took a deep breath and finished the bottle of water before he called his mom’s phone.  He checked the time on his computer screen and sighed.  He would probably wake them up.

It would only be just around six in Paris.

His mother picked up on the fourth ring.

“Atlas?  Is everything alright?”  She sounded groggy but alert.

“Hello Mom,” he greeted her.  “I’m sorry to wake you.  Everything is fine.”

“Why are you calling so early?” she asked.

“Can you put me on speakerphone?  I need to tell you and Dad something together.”

“Alright darling,” she said.

Atlas heard the shuffling around before her voice came through again.

“You’re on speaker now.”

“Hey Atlas,” his father said.  “How is everything?”

Atlas could hear the wariness in his voice and he wiped his hand down his face.

“Everything is fine.  I’m calling to tell you that I mated an omega.”

It was short and to the point and judging by the shocked silence on the other end of the phone his parents were unsure about what to say.

“I’m sorry, did you say you have a mate?” his mother asked.

Atlas cleared his throat before he spoke again.  “Yes, I mated an omega.  Her name in Anais.”

“Well, Atlas, this is a surprise,” his father continued.

“I know,” He replied.

“We didn’t know you were interested in anyone.  We haven’t seen you out with anyone new,” his mother said cautiously.

“This wasn’t a planned mating,” Atlas confessed.  “Our cycles were triggered together and we mated.”

“I’m not sure I recognize her name, dear,” She said slowly.  “What family is she from?”

Atlas growled and decided to rip off the band aid.

“Anais and I didn’t know each other before my rut and her heat.  She was working at Roman’s when I went last week with Jovani and Luc.”

“You mean you mated an omega you’ve never met before?” He could hear the shock in his mother’s voice.

“Yes.  It’s not ideal, but I will take responsibility and will not abandon her.”

“Of course you won’t,” his father said. “We raised you better than that.”

Atlas’ stomach settled a little at his father’s words. He had done the right thing.

“Yes, and I’m sure everything will be fine,” his mother agreed.  “We’ll be back in a few months and we can’t wait to meet her.”

“Thanks, Mom,” Atlas said.

“Did you call Jovani?  How is everything at the office?” his father asked.

“Everything is fine.  I called to check in first and Jovani said everything was good.  Charlie’s got everything under control as usual and Jovani said he was good for me to take a few days to work at home while Anais and I solidify the bond.”

“Good, good,” his father continued.  “Well, let me know if you need anything and I can fly out for a few days.  Might do that anyway, just because.”

“Wonderful, let me know what you decide.  I’ve got some work to catch up on now. I’m sorry to have woken you.”

“We’re glad you called, Atlas,” His father said.  “We’ll love you.”

“Love you too,” he told them.

Atlas hung up and rubbed his eyes. That had gone better than he thought it would.

With any luck his parents would stay on the other side of the world for a few months and let him and Anais figure out themselves alone.

Atlas sighed and decided to call Anna later.

There was only so much he could do at the moment while he was still trying to process everything for himself. He looked back to this computer and jiggled the mouse to wake up the screen.  He wanted to check his email and sort through a few things.

He knew that Charlie had everything under control.  He had hired her years ago and he had realized very quickly that it was the best decision he had ever made.

He woke up his computer and opened his email.  He grimaced as he watched the emails load.  He sorted them into several categories and proceeded to work through the most important ones first.

He signed a few documents that were waiting for his approval so they could move on in the morning.

He was frustrated and grumpy about the amount of work that he missed.  There were important projects that he was responsible for, including closing the deal with Luc.  They had suffered in the three days he had been out and now Atlas had to clean up a mess.

This was why he didn’t want a mate in the first place.  He would have to take off more time than he wanted due to heats and other needs his mate would have.

Looking through the amount of work he had to catch up on he shook his head.

Anais seemed like a nice omega, and Atlas knew that she would be a good mate to him.  She would be happy doing whatever she wanted while Atlas worked.

He would just need to make sure that Anais knew his priority was his company.

He would honor the mating, but Anais would need to understand that the network would come first.

Satisfied with his plan, he worked until there was a knock on the door.
