CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

“Sir?” Elizabeth was dumbfounded. She had worked tirelessly for this company, only to be on the brink of being replaced by a stranger from the streets. Tears welled up in her eyes as her heart sank.

“Yes?” Rohan responded, glancing at her and observing her distress.

“Have I done something wrong, sir? I’ve been working for you for four years, and now you’re about to replace me,” she reminded him, her voice cracking with emotion.

Avery watched Elizabeth speak, sensing the pain in her eyes. She empathized with her, knowing how it felt to be replaced. Observing Elizabeth’s love for her job, despite knowing Rohan was a vampire, Avery felt a pang of sympathy.

“I understand,” Rohan said, sighing and glancing at Avery, who shook her head.

“I appreciate your offer, sir, but I don’t want it,” Avery interjected before he could continue. She didn’t want any of these. She didn’t want to give Elizabeth the impression that she was after her position and definitely didn’t want to become her enemy.
