A Spy

When a week later Brenda told him she was going out with a classmate, Giovanni didn't hesitate to ask if it was the same one.

"Do you think she'd go out with that guy after I helped scare him off?" Brenda chuckled. "You must be kidding."

"Oh, no?" Giovanni raised an eyebrow. "Then who is it?"

He thought he was feigning curiosity, but his serious expression alerted Brenda a bit, and she had to suppress a smile.

"I thought we wouldn't ask questions..."

"I just want to know, Brenda. Don't want you going out with a serial killer or a psychopath."

"I doubt it," she said, pretending to be thoughtful. "He's a good guy and seems very interested in me."

"Really!" Giovanni said sarcastically.

"I don't ask about your women, that was the deal," the American girl said seriously, shrugging her shoulders.

"Sure, the deal."

That night, Giovanni saw Brenda leave with a man who seemed "too perfect" in his opinion.
