Leigh-Anne Wallace

Chapter five.

Everything in here looks sophisticated, more like a luxury. The interior decor was fantabulous, everything was to die for.

I composed myself quickly when I heard the thumping of feet on the stairs and hush voices following closely.

The Sullivan-  I had come to properly apologize for the surly attitude of my daughter towards them the other night. I would have come with Krystal but she locked her doors from the inside. Stubborn.

Krystal has been too stubborn and ill-mannered ever since she came back from Vegas but her churlish attitude isn't going to ease my desire for wealth and fame or make me call off the deal. The Sullivans must and would be my in-laws. It's just a pity that Wallace wasn't alive to see this.

"Oh! My soon-to-be in-laws, I'm so sorry about my daughter's unruly and churlish behavior the last time you visited," I pleaded with a fake smile, facing Yolanda.

"It's okay Anne. Dalton and I were just concluding the marriage proceedings when we were informed of your arrival." She stared at Dalton, signaling him to speak.

"Yes, we were merely discussing it. Before our discussion, Erm…. Yolanda was suggesting we make the wedding more elaborate but I wouldn't want that ….." He was saying when Yolanda cut him short.

"Stop honey! I didn't say that we were just suggesting." She defended.

   These couples are a handful.

"Erm… Mr Sullivan, every wedding ought to be elaborate and sophisticated, not formal." I seconded Yolanda. My daughter's wedding must be celebrated in a grand style, it must be the talk of the town.

A memorable day, that would seem like a dream one wouldn't want to wake from, feeling its delicate taste like honey directly from the bee hive. It's what the wedding would be like for Krystal, she would love it, I'll make sure of that.

"Dalton it's a wedding not one of your senatorial meetings, a wedding can't be official?" The couple was still arguing while I was lost in my thoughts.

Thoughts of how to dominate, thoughts of how to control and rule with a finger snap. I can't wait to be a very important person in New York. Wallace would have made it but he died in the process.

I wasn't concerned about Krystal's marriage to Chris, I never really liked Chris for my daughter, he's not the perfect guy for my precious daughter. On a more convincing occasion, I wouldn't enforce a marriage between them, not to a man who cheated on her but as it is now, I don't really care about that now till I get what I want then, just then I can fight for her. I don't have a choice.

Eventually, Yolanda went upstairs to answer a call and I was left with Dalton. I smirked, just the perfect time.

"Errm…. Anne…. I…" He floundered for words, he's so helpless when he's in front of me and that makes me feel giddy. That's what power tastes and feels like.

"Shush….. Shush!!" I shut him up, snapping my long artificial nails to his face. "You don't have to say anything Dalton, as long as you comply you are safe," I said smirking like a boss that I would soon become.

"Not that Anne, as for that I'm already complying." He said as his speech wavered.

    "Then what is it?"

"It's Yolanda, she's been questioning about the agreement and the sudden rush. She's only pretending to accept it but she doesn't like that, she hates your family." Dalton said in a rush, "Sooner or later she'll find out." He added in bewilderment.

"Hmm! Don't worry about Yolanda, I'll handle her."

"No…. Errm…. I mean you don't understand, she's suspicious about the rush." He said in hushed tones.

"That's none of her concern, I'll handle her as I have said."

"Please don't hurt her, I'm begging." He pleaded.

"I won't as long as she stays away from these, it's none of her business. It's between you and me." I smirked again, throwing some documents on the table.

"Here, I want you to sign it."

"Oh! Common Anne, how many more agreements do I have to sign?" Dalton questioned.

"Oh! You are not going to sign it? I can just….." I subdued, dipping my hands into my bags to bring out something.

"No…. No…. No, C'mon I'll sign it. You are so incredible Anne, one can't even joke with you." He laughed frantically, flustering. He was practically soaked in his perspiration.

I chuckled inwardly seeing him shiver but kept a straight face. Power is sweet.

I watched him pick up his ball pen, but hesitated to sign, reading through it.

"You don't have to read it, just sign it or I ……" I threatened.

"Okay, okay, fine. But Anne I …. Still have to...erm...read through it you know?" He floundered fearfully.

"You don't have to, just sign it." I clamored.

I packaged the documents after Dalton signed them. Just immediately, Yolanda stepped in with a decisive smile. I'll handle her, I'll crush her like a boa constrictor crushes its prey if she doesn't control her leaking mouth. Stupid!

Well, I shouldn't be bothered about her, she's just a little girl in my big hunt for raw power.

            My game of fame.

My plan is simple, Dalton is the stooge, Chris the access to wealth, Yolanda is just a third party she doesn't have much use for, Krystal is the exchange for the things I crave and I will be the boss.

A game of truce. I get what I want and we'll call it off.

Well, I'm still pretty concerned about my daughter but I'm doing it for us.

"Anne, why not join us for lunch?" Yolanda offered gleefully, smiling. She's very good at faking it. Good thing Dalton told me about her pious attitude on time, I almost believed she was a good woman.

"Well you don't have to worry, Yolanda, I'll just get going okay? Catch up with you on the marriage arrangement." I smiled back.

"Yeah that, we will talk about it later on. I want to go shopping with Krystal myself." She laughed.

We had a cheek-to-cheek kiss before baking them goodbye and to Dalton, I winked before leaving.

YOLANDA'S POV.

The sudden pronouncement of a marriage between my son and the devil's daughter still didn't settle down with me, and now the sudden rush.

Dalton arrived home one night and gave me the shocking news of the instant marriage between our son and Wallace's daughter. I had objected to it but he claimed it was to our benefit and I should succumb.

Chris is my only son, I'll never allow him to mingle with people below the elites. My son is a royalty and should be only with royalties, not some common lawyer girl.

The girl he cheated with was his ex-fiancee but I wasn't aware of it until that night. I thought he had stopped seeing her because Dalton had asked him to stay off and put up with Krystal.

Well, Krystal is a nice girl but I don't just want her for my son, she's not his class, not our class. I'd prefer his ex to Krystal

I and Dalton had chosen her for Chris before the sudden change. I wouldn't also suggest an elaborate wedding but just for the sake of my son.

The night after the agreement was signed, I questioned Dalton on the sudden change of bride for our son but he didn't sound convincing, he sounded exhorted.

"If only you knew, you would tread with caution." He had said that night.

I began to grow suspicious of what he meant and what was behind those words. 'If only I knew.'

Was there something I ought to know?" I wasn't at rest. There was something didn't know and needed to know.

I sought answers from him but he wouldn't budge, he spoke no more.

There must be something attached to this marriage agreement, there must be something prompting the sudden rush. I've searched every nook and cranny of my home for the agreement papers but can't find it.

These people. They are good at playing a game

According to the deal, the two were supposed to court themselves for one year but in less than five months, the marriage was concluded and now it's two months to marriage. Something's amiss.

I've played along because of Dalton and also to know what prompted the deal, what brought about it.

As far as I can remember, both families weren't close, they were just distinguished members of the white house and Mr Wallace is dead, now I began to wonder where the connection lies.

I smirked, only one person had a better explanation for all this nonsense. Anne Wallace, that devil. But how do I get her to explain?

What has she done to Dalton to make him succumb? Hmm! Those two are playing a dirty game and I shall find out what it is before it consumes us all.

"Anne Wallace, we shall see," I said inwardly as I watched the devil go, snapping my fingers unconsciously before heading inside with Dalton looking fretful.
