CHAPTER TWO

‘Beep Beep!!!!!!’

Christine’s digital alarm clock buzzed insistently, she reached over to the bedside table to slap the snooze button, but ended up knocking it over.

Great, she thought, stretching her hands as she rolled over to the end of the bed, looking down she could see the shattered pieces of the clock. Another alarm clock gone.

She yawned, rubbed her eyes and sat up straight, looking at the wall opposite her.  She sighed and rose to her feet while massaging her temple with her palm. She was still hungover from all the drinking she did yesterday night. To think she was really in love with Daniel but that was over now and so was her love life.

She was going to live in solitude from now on, she swore to herself. She might even join the convent and be a nun.    Sister Christine…..    No more guys, No more drama, No more heartbreak.

She moved towards her window and opened up her curtains, letting warm rays of sunlight flood her one room apartment.

Looking around, she could see that her room was falling apart. The paint was peeling off the wall in places, water leaked from one end of her ceiling and dropped inside a small bucket. She could see holes created by rodents in every corner.

Numerous times she had complained to the landlord about the situation of her apartment but he didn’t do anything about it. He always waved it off, using the economy and how it was hard to come up with building materials as an excuse.  The one time he came up to inspect the room, he spent half time flirting with her. But what could she do, this was the cheapest apartment she could find in New York.

Picking up the beer bottles lying on the tiled floor, she heard her phone chime.

It was a remainder. A reminder for the interview she was having in the next one hour.

“Fuck!!!” she cussed, sprinting to the bathroom  to shower.

How could she forget the interview for the nanny job. It was very important to her.  For one, the pay was ridiculously expensive, 30$ per hour, that’s higher than any other job she had ever gotten, she could finally buy a car.

Also the job required her to live in the house as she attended to the child every need. That meant no rent for a long time and she could finally get out of this dead apartment, she found on Thrift list.

She quickly got dressed,She wore a white camisole that amplified her curves and styled it with blue top-pant suit and shoes to match.

Tying her hair up in a bun, her blonde curls captured at the nape of her neck as she hurried out in the door.

After an hour of jumping from one taxi to another and sweating in the traffic. Christine found herself in front of a high-rise luxurious apartment building.

“Wow,” she muttered to herself as she walked into the building and towards the reception.

She could spot a lot of famous celebrities walk in and out the building. Her eyes blinked as she debated if she was in the right place or not.To live here must cost a fortune.

“Hello,” the woman at the desk smiled at her, she was dark skinned with short curly hair that flowed down her shoulders.

“Hi, my name is Christine and I was invited here for an interview”.

“This is an apartment not an office,” the receptionist replied eyeing Christine suspiciously.

“Sorry it’s for a nanny job, the person gave me this card,” Christine replied, she took out a business card from her purse and slid it across the desk towards the receptionist.

The receptionist took the card, looked at it carefully before dialing a number on her phone.

After a few seconds of talking to a someone on the other end of the phone, she smiled at Christine and directed her to penthouse suite at the top of the building.

An elevator ride up the building and two knocks later.   Christine was ushered into a well furnished apartment. She froze still in amusement as she took in the scenery of the living room. It was the biggest she had ever seen, and she had been to a lot considering her job.  It was well lit, tidy and spacious. The large glass window gave a pleasant and captivating view of the city. Rare paintings beautified the elegant wall covering, an enclosed koi pond stood perfectly behind the modern furnitures. A giant television hanged above a decorated fire place.

But nothing was compared to the man that sat on the stool behind the stunning grand piano playing a melodious time.

His sleek raven-black hair coiffed to perfection as his fingers laid gently switching between the keys of the musical instrument. Despite the heat he wore a long-sleeved sweater that hugged the muscles of his arms and shoulders beneath a down vest.

“The nanny is here,” the man who ushered her in spoke. He was conservatively dressed in a clean and crisply pressed black suit, a white dress shirt and an appropriately matching tie with gloves and freshly polished matching footwear.

The handsome piano-player turned towards Christine. He stood up and walked closer to her.

“Hello Miss Christine,” the man stretched forth his hand to her, giving her a dashing smile which displayed his perfect set of white teeth.

Christine squinted her eyes as she tried to recognize the gorgeous hunk of a man standing in front of her.  She knew she had seen this chiseled jaw, deep brown eyes and immaculate face before. Reaching out her hand to him, she shook him. She felt his fingers brush hers lightly, sending tingles down her spine.

That was when it struck her, his face, she had seen it on almost every magazine and news blog in New York.

The 6’4 charming man whose cologne filled the space between them, was no other than billionaire mogul Logan Grayson.
