Lisa’s heart skipped a beat as she lowered herself to her chair. In truth, she knew whatever the woman had to say, it was related to the incident three days back. However, she couldn’t help the fear that enveloped her. She could already imagine her father’s disappointed face when he realizes she had been kicked out of the North’s family.

“Raymond made a mistake.” Mary began. “A huge one that none of us can revert. I know you haven’t been home for the last three days.”

Right, did Lisa forget she was living with a mama’s boy?

“I won’t ask you where you have been in the last three days. Maybe, because I trust you wouldn’t do anything that would bring shame to this family.” She narrowed her eyes. “Unless you give me a reason not to trust you.”

Lisa could have easily evaded her gaze but she met the woman’s gaze instead. It surprised her where the confidence had come from.
