Two

The sun was setting and the little light that had been seeping through the heavy looking velvety curtains that fell down the large windows, was slowly fading. The entire room looked like it belonged in the Victorian era. Every intricate design and embroidery. Either the owner had a rather strong interest in the fashions of the past or this was just an abandoned building.

An abandoned building wouldn't be this spotless though.

Now that she really paid attention, the room was rather odd, for lack of a better word. It was a spacious room that basically had nothing in it. Except for the curtains which were embroidered with silky cloths that ran down the edges, the twinkling chandelier and the wretched pole, around which her hands were cuffed, which stood right in centre of the room.

However even though the room was empty, she could see the expensiveness in the room and of the room. Another detail which served to worry her even more.

What if they all were trespassing and she got in trouble for it. What if she got arrested for violating some rich people's privacy.

Her feet were now aching. She was anything but comfortable. Kara frustratedly kicked off her shoes as far as she could towards the large door. She sighed in relief when she felt the cold marble beneath her bare feet but it was short lived. The cold of the night was now settling.

She moved her cuffed wrists down the pole around which they were held, until she had to bend then she sat on the floor. She might as well get comfortable seeing as her friends were nowhere to be seen.

I should be preparing for my exam instead of being here.

Kara would be your ideal nerd except for the fact that she did not look the part. Her hair was frizzy and yes, she did wear these big old glasses but she was beautiful. It took an observational eye to see it since she would always wear drab clothes to hide her stunning features.

Losing both parents to a car accident when she was only six years old, she grew up appreciating a lot of things in her life. Whatever she put her mind to, she did wholeheartedly and always saw it through to the end.

She got through high school with no difficulties, coming out with flying colours and earning herself a place in the prestigious Yourne University. She was a hard worker and did her work to the best extent.

So, to be sitting there in that room, was something she had never envisioned. It was a waste of time and time was something she found precious.

Her mom would freak out if she got a whiff of this. Lena Thompson was her foster mother, the only mother figure she had ever known. Her real parents were now like two distant memories she could hardly recall and that was something which always made her sad.

Lena was an independent woman who had come into Kara's life a year and some months after Kara had been sheltering in a foster home. Days back then had been dark, sad and long. She had always kept to herself and cried herself to sleep.

Then came along Lena, who raised Kara singlehandedly and worked so hard, it rubbed off on Kara. Lena was practically the strongest woman Kara had ever known and so she had made a vow. Kara would never let her mother down. No matter what it took.

Where other girls her age were busy getting moody and changing boyfriends faster than she could blink, Kara worked just as hard. And it payed off. She remembered how on graduation day back in high school, Lena had swept her in a hug and shed tears of happiness.

It had felt wonderful to make her happy. To see that glimmer of pride and happiness in her eyes. So she put it upon herself to always be the reason behind that smile on Lena's face.

Thanks to her friends, she was losing precious study time. And whoever made her lose her study time, she had to let go.

She let out an unwelcome yawn. She blinked rapidly to refrain from falling asleep. She could not fall asleep. She just wouldn't. Who knew what was in here. It was getting darker by the second and the events of the day were finally taking a toll on her body.

She yawned yet again and could feel her eyes drooping, against her will. Once the human body was on lockdown, nobody could do anything to suppress it's needs. Right then, her body needed it's sleep and so she fell into a deep slumber with only a single thought in her mind.

What have I got myself into?
