On hearing my words, I noticed a puzzled expression on his face which made me wonder if I had said something wrong.

He moved his eye to my finger and then back to my face.

"What's a pinky swear?" He asked, tilting his head to the side with curiosity smeared on his face and apparent in his voice.

Seeing the child express another emotion other than fear brought a smile to my face.

I was somewhat surprised that I was getting the question from a child rather than an adult because it was something popular with kids these days, I didn't even know what it was until my neighbor's child force me into one with her, or she wouldn't stop crying.
