Lost child.

It sounded like a sob, no it seemed to have died down to a whimper followed by a sniffle.

I moved my gaze around the place but I couldn't find anyone whimpering, surely I wasn't losing my mind.

This time I tried to evade other sounds and focus my hearing on the source of the whimper and I followed it slowly until I realized it was coming from behind the shrubs.

I continued to follow the sound only to find a child, behind the shrub, sitting on the grass with raised knees and a lowered head resting on his hands.

My gaze softened slightly at the sight in front of me, not many people close to me knew it but I had a soft spot for children which wasn't readily shown.

I leaned forward slightly to get a better view of the child while also maintaining a good distance, the last thing I wanted to do was frighten the child. From the clothing, I could tell it was a boy.
