21. Black Moon Territory
TonyI woke up and looked over at Lucy with a grin. Matt was still asleep as usual as was Lucy, but when I thought about last night, it was hard to be upset. We’d pushed her a lot last night and she’d only passed out at the end. You’re thinking too loud, Matt groused in his sleep. I’m not getting up yet.I shook my head. I’m not giving you a choice. We have to get moving.Think about Lucy. She’s tired. He frowned in his sleep. We asked a lot of her last night. She’s not coming. I nudged him. Get up.He cracked one eye and glared at me. What do you mean she’s not coming? You want to take our mate to an unofficial Pack Conference where Peter and David will be? I cocked an eyebrow at him. On Black Moon Territory?Matt opened his other eye and stared at me then dropped his gaze to Lucy. He set his jaw and I waited for him to reach the same conclusion I had when the announcement came. There’s… no way. He pouted. Why do I have to go?I snorted. Every other alpha will be there. It’s about

22. A History of Werewolves
MattI got into the car with my luggage, unable to shake the look on Lucy’s face. Tony climbed in next to me and with pensive look on his face. “You too?”Tony nodded. “I’m not sure what it is, but there’s something wrong.”Matt huffed. “This would be so much easier if we could just… link with her.”Tony bobbed his head before glancing into the front seat where the driver was seated. “We’ll deal with it when we get back.” Tony sat back in his seat with a sigh. “For now, we just need to get through this conference.”“Do we really have to talk about this?” Matt asked. “It’s like they think that the more often they talk about it, the more likely it is for us to agree.”“That is likely their hope, but it’s more than that,” Tony said. “Holding a conference like this so soon after we’ve been mated is a political move to make us lose our shit, so watch yourself.”I scoffed. “I’ll be too bored to get angry. Watch.”“Or too busy daydreaming,” Tony sighed. “Do you think we pushed her too hard

23. The auction that sold Lucy
TonyThe further away from the Estate we drove, the more uneasy I felt, thinking about Lucy and what I’d found about half breeds and the Moon Goddess. The pictures from the book kept scrolling through my mind, but I still couldn’t shake the feeling that I was missing something. You never told me the rest, Matt said as he swiped across his phone’s screen. About what you found in the attic. That’s because there wasn’t much else to tell. The necklace is lost as far as the books say, so she’ll only be able to shift during the full moon. What about all the other stuff? Matt asked. We’re supposed to be able to—I know, I said, trying not to let the thought bother me. I didn’t find anything about it because I hadn’t been looking.Do you think we were wrong?I swallowed. I thought back to when I’d seen Lucy on stage. I remember feeling drawn, but that draw wasn’t what I had ever imagined when I thought of a mate. Only time will tell on that. I sighed again as we grew closer and closer to

24. An alliance
TonyI stared Peter in the face, waiting for him to push or say something more out of line. This was the usual course of events, but usually Peter was a little more subtle about it. I tried to reign in the irritation that was rippling through me. The glow of his eyes was a challenge. He had most of the room eating out of the palm of his hand as one of the oldest people in the room, but Matt and I had never bowed our heads. “Is that because your new mate is from the human world?”A ripple of murmuring filled the air and I realized what this was really about. “Our mate has no family in the human world,” he said. “She was lost and now we’ve brought her back to where she belongs. Our lack of interest in war has more to do with being sensible humans rather than deranged wolves.”Peter’s eyes glinted. I smiled, feeling a little smug. “We’ve already seen exactly what the kind of trouble you cause has brought us: witch hunts. Or do we all need a history lesson?”More people cleared their t

25. Lock down the Estate
David When I saw Matt and Tony walk in earlier, I had hoped to see Lucy again, but she wasn’t with them. I couldn’t say if I was angry or just disappointed. Whatever I was feeling, it made me more determined. The moment I could take over the packs, I would kill them both and take Lucy for my own. If it weren’t for them, I would have had more time to talk to her the last time we met. At the same time, there was a good chance that I would have never met her again if it weren’t for those two. I turned and drifted through the small gathering. As usual, Peter only had a few alphas of his pack present. The Black Moon Pack organized themselves differently than other packs. Well, at least different that the Blood Moon Pack, but that was because the Black Moon and Blue Moon Packs were much smaller than the Blood Moon Pack. They didn’t need a chain of command to command under a hundred people. Peter hadn’t reappeared yet, and I didn’t see Matt and Tony either, but soon, I heard someone anno

26. The twins’ old lovers
PeterPoison. It was the first thing that came to mind when I heard whoever Matt was speaking to talking about Lucy. It was truly the only thing that would make sense as any werewolf within the house would have heard a gunshot and smelled freshly spilled blood. Slow-acting perhaps, maybe not. Effective. Ruthless. And oddly personal. Whoever did it wanted Lucy to suffer until the last breath had left her. Maybe it was one the twins’ old lovers.Perhaps it had been one of their old pack members who had joined Black Moon. My lips almost twitched into a smile as I ran my thumb over the smooth surface of Lucy’s hairpin in my pocket. I wasn’t worried, exactly. Poison, for the most part, tended to cause some discomfort, but unless they had used wolfsbane, it was unlikely to kill her, even if she was a half breed.Whoever was behind this had been within the Blue Moon Pack. As I had not given the order, I supposed it was someone who was working for the Blood Moon Pack. Little David had more sp

27. Gun men
MattThe car was driving down the road, but it didn’t feel like we were going fast enough. Cars passed up every once in a while. Couldn’t he drive any faster? What the hell was taking so long? Were we even going the right way?Are we going the right way?I frowned as I thought about it and looked over at Tony. He looked over at me, his eyes glowing red and before he could say something, the car jerked left. I heard a blaring horn and the crunch of glass. I heard screeching tires and pain exploded along my side as the car spun. It slammed into the side railing once, twice, three times before it finally stopped. The scent of deployed airbags and smoke drifted into my nose. I looked up, blinking through the pain and the thick, burning liquid in my eye, searing for the fire. I saw something drifting up and from the hood of the car. Then, I heard the driver’s door open. Tony’s door opened next. Tony snarled. I heard something rip. Then, there was more snarling. I groaned, trying to get m

28. The dragon territory
MattI was dizzy, but I kept running in the direction Tony told me to. I could barely make out the shape of leaves beneath me, let alone the trees. I was so dizzy with blood loss. It was only pure will and Tony’s voice in my head that was keeping me going. I wish I could help more, but I had lost too much blood. We ran for what felt like too long, using our enhanced speed to thin them out. Tony would take care of the few who managed to catch up with us as they came, giving me some time to rest in between bursts of running at top speed.I stumbled as my stomach lurched and the world started to spin. I heard Tony tearing a werewolf apart and sunk my head into the river, drinking from it in hopes that it would help. The wound in my side was closed, but it wasn’t leaking as much blood as it had been earlier. Still, my fur was mostly red from the blood leaking from the wound on my back. Tony came back and rushed past me. I ran after him, shaking off the dizziness as much as I could. The c

29. I will kill you all
MattThe relief of knowing that Lucy was simply missing and not dead had taken what little strength I had left. Tony practically carried me back down stairs and put me in a chair to be tended. I sat at the edge of the room as Tony growled and demanded answers, but none of them told a different story. The person who had made her lunch wasn’t here. They hadn’t seen her and several others in the house since several hours before our beta’s daughter had gone to check on Lucy. Of the thirty-five people that lived on the Estate and were a part of the pack, only twenty-three were here. Five of them were on patrol meaning that there were seven people missing total.Seven traitors.“No answer?” Tony asked our beta. He shook his head. “I’ve called all of their families too, but all of them are gone. All of their stuff is gone too.”I grit my teeth and hissed as our nanny applied some silver anecdote to the wound on my back and pressed a bandage to my side. It smelled like tar and motor oil, but

30. The witch
TonyI paced. I hated. Every step I took felt like I was losing control, but I couldn’t help it. It was either this or murdering my entire pack. I tried not to think of the row of graves that weren’t even a decade old as I pushed my instincts to pick up something. But there wasn’t even a trace that she had ever been here. I looked up at the window of the luna’s chambers and tried to breathe through my fury. This can’t go on. I told Matt as he came up to stand beside me. I can feel my control slipping. “We’ll find her,” Matt said. “If we can just figure out how she could have been taken from the estate without anyone knowing…”If they’re all in on it because she’s only a half breed…“We can’t jump to that conclusion yet,” Matt said, wincing. “I really hate being the voice of reason.”Tony snorted. Can you feel her at all?He winced at the question. Matt’s shoulders slumped. “I… Tony, I couldn’t ever feel her.”I nodded stiffly. Me either.I couldn’t feel her even when we were nearby
