Having made up her mind to escape that night, Evelyn waited until she was sure the club would be busy to make her move. Night clubs were the busiest at midnight and she was sure everyone would be occupied to notice her running away. She picked the lock with the small knife she had sneaked into the basement and when the door opened, she stuck her head out and peered around. When she saw no one, she stood on her tippy toes and stealthily walked up the stairs, and went on the left toward the back door as fast as she could. Her heart was racing faster than a galloping horse for fear of being caught. Luckily, as she had anticipated, everyone was busy entertaining clients in the main hall so she was able to walk out of the club without being noticed. Or so she thought.
