CHAPTER FORTY-ONE
Alex's POV(...Alpha duties)He drove out of the high-rise building alone. Dusk was closing in. He stopped by a flower shop and headed for the cemetery. Since the death of his father, it was as though he couldn’t think for himself anymore. There was no one to receive directions from, there was no one to fear or dread. He felt helpless even as he approached his thirties. Adulthood had been fun earlier when he wasn’t responsible for the thinking and decision making. He suddenly developed a fondness for visiting his father’s grave whenever he encountered a crisis. As if the weight of the region wasn’t enough, he had family duties haunting him down“It’s so hard to be you, father”, Alex broke into the tears he had tried so hard to withhold around people. He dropped the bunch of flowers and slumped on his knees. “What was I thinking? I admit. I just can’t do this. The region deserves a stronger leader. I’m just a weakling. The moon goddess must have chosen wrongly. It shouldn’t have been m

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO
Alex's POV(…new pack members)They halted at a wide open field with lots of tents pitched all over the expanse. A guard opened the car door and Alex stepped out in surprise. It was like a large refugee. The few uniformed men bowed as they caught sight of him. “You made all these arrangements behind me?”, Alex asked as he scanned the area.“I didn’t want to bother you with things I could handle. Besides, you were having a difficult time”, Mike explained. “Quite impressed, I must say. But why are they all dressed the same way?”“It’s easier to differentiate them from the main pack that way”“That’s unnecessary. They aren’t slaves”, Alex remarked, as he felt compassion for them. A young boy ran towards Alex, but one of the guards stopped him, sending him back to a man and a woman sitting together, that seemed like his parents. “Who’s in charge of them?”, Alex asked after feeding his eyes. Mike signaled to a hefty looking man clothed in a camouflage. “This is Brandon. He’s the head

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE
Lucia’s POV(…family life)It’s been two weeks after her discharge. Lucia had been having sleepless nights and busy days from the babies demands and endless cries. She had been to the laboratory the week before to make a jar full of potion Alex had requested, which made her even weaker. She put the babies to sleep in their different cribs. Williams, the visually impaired seemed to be giving less troubles compared to his twin sister, Diane. She got in the shower to take a bath after a long day. Their room had been switched into a larger room on the second floor to accommodate the babies’ need. She got out of the shower feeling a bit of freshness. As she switched into her nightwear, she caught a glimpse of herself in the large mirror and began to sob silently. She missed her usual body—free of stretchmarks. She raised the extra belly fat sagging down her lower abdomen and turned around to observe how much changes had occurred all over her in such a short period. She never had time for h

CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR
Alex’s POV(…a crave for freedom)Alex was the first to arrive at the door post. He met two maidservants pulling a food trolley—Aurora’s supposed breakfast. Alex knocked at first. He pressed his ears onto the door to get the faintest of sounds but, there was none. He had tried using his mind link but, to no avail. He looked around on the frightened faces as he concealed his fear with a stern look, gesturing for Lucia to step away. He kicked down the door, which gave entrance on the second attempt. Alex rushed to wear his mother laid. She wore a stiff smile and her eyes were open. “Mother?”, Alex called out, frightened and clueless of why she had the look. He paid close attention to her breathing pattern, but there was no movement. “Call the doctor”, Alex said flatly as he remained still without going any closer—his mother’s expression creeped him out. His close look on her made him realize how lean she’d grown to become. “Mother, are you awake?”, he asked the smiling figure that wou

CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE
Lucia’s POV(…unknown caller)She dropped the receiver with a long expression. For a split second, she had forgotten about Alex’s presence and how much she wanted to abscond from the responsibilities laid on her—only the mate bond had held her a captive of love. “Who was it?”, Alex asked, distracting her thoughts.“One of my father’s warriors. He says he needs to see me urgently and father is ill”, she replied, concealing the fact that she doubts the authenticity of the message. “He should have sent a message to me first. Don’t tell me you’re thinking of flying to Madrid this night?”, Alex asked as Lucia began folding a few clothes into a small suitcase. “I have to. What if he’s at the point of death? Delay can be dangerous”, she said ignoring the insistence in his tone. “What happens to Williams and Diane?”Lucia cocked her head, sighed and walked towards him, “Please, get a qualified nanny that will fill in till I come back. It might be the last time I get to see him”, she held

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX
Mike's POV(…a comeback)The station was well-lit, as the time of day had little effect on their vision. As the men approached them gently, Mike raised his arms to conceal Lucia behind him. He had expected a fight, but not this soon."Hand over the lady and get out of our way," one of them, who appeared to be the gang's leader, ordered. Four people stood behind him. “How bad can your manners be?.“, Mike interjected jokingly, raising his other arm to check the time, “It's 2 in the morning. A simple greeting wouldn't make you more ugly, rather than berge on innocent citizens”, he laughed nervously as he took an extra step back. He had learnt the trick of sounding stupid in the face of danger to distract his opposition. He hoped his plan doesn't turn against him.“Are you out of your mind?“, Lucia whispered into his ears, “These men are armed and the best you can do is make silly jokes that'll get us into more trouble”They all cocked their guns and aimed at them, “We're not here for chi

CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN
Alex's POV(… an untold vision) It's been a year since Lucia died. The kids have gotten used to their nanny, Bernie—a young lady in her early thirties and the daughter of one of the Deltas. The region's economy had been traveling on a downward spiral since Alex ordered a total close of the borders. All his days, aside for when he hosted important meetings with the region's executive members, have been within the four walls of his study room.“It's impossible to mistake your location at every given time”, Mike remarked as he walked in, one cool evening.“I don't assume that to be a compliment, Mike”, Alex replied coldly. “What bad news do you have this time?“, he asked, without taking his eyes off the laptop's screen—Mike never visited the palace unless a serious event was predicted.“Sorry, Alpha. In that case I'll begin with the good. Toria had a baby boy yesterday. We both agreed to name him Larry. Larry Blake”, Mike gave a broad smile.“Toria? Isn't that the girl from the bar, tha

CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT
Diane's POV(…Fourteen years later)“That'll be all for today. We will proceed to the practical section of self-defense by tomorrow. Make sure you all come along with your training suits”, the scrawny teacher with an oblong face covered in grey hair concluded, as he exited the lecture hall. Diane had been busy scribbling on her hardcover note the whole of the period. Her father—the Alpha, had forced her into studying martial arts, like him, against her will. She had failed the entrance exams into DeRoyal University—the only university with the highest level of competition in the region and a place for exceptional students. She had been granted provisional admission as the Alpha's daughter. Williams, her blind twin brother, was allowed to continue his choice of career in the medical fields when the Alpha suspected his special healing abilities. He trained in the medical institute of the same school.“That's one beautiful piece of art”, a thick masculine voice complimented from behind.

CHAPTER FORTY-NINE
Diane's POV(…the chosen one)“Keep practising, Diane”, the Alpha commanded as he left the lawn with Mike. “we need to do something about your negative reports”, the Alpha spoke to his beta as their voices faded out.Immediately the Alpha was out of sight, Diane fell to the floor in exhaustion and wiped the drying tears off her cheeks. The Alpha had placed her on high expectations, when all she really wanted was to lead a simple life. But, here she was, preparing for a position that would demand so much from her. She got up to her feet after catching enough breath and strolled in. There was no point following the Alpha's order—she usually forgot all she's been taught in the training, as she ends up relearning old lessons over and over again. She had wondered why the Alpha hasn't given up on her. One of the maidservants passed by her, “How long will it take you to clear up my dirty clothes?“, Diane asked angrily. The maid bowed and replied, as she turned around, “I checked in this mor

CHAPTER FIFTY
Diane's POV(…a prophecy)“You've to be cautious of your every step, especially outside the palace”, the Alpha spoke in his usual cold voice. She finally met his gaze, after suspecting the purpose of the summon wasn't in anyway related to her previous action. She found the courage to speak, ”what do you mean, father?““I don't wish to bug you with so much details yet but I believe it's never too early to learn of your enemy. Maybe it would be a driving force to make you better as soon as possible.”, her father replied. “Is it the same enemy that had mum killed?“, she asked soberly. She had imagined her mother's complete look from the portrait of her, hung in the Alpha's room. Once, she gave the face a body and imagined what she would sound like—the Alpha seldomly spoke about her to them.“The very one. But, we might be mistaken. It's possible someone's threatening us and disguising under his name. Whatever the case, stay out of trouble. You might want to cut down on your nightly flig
