Chapter 10
Thunder rattled the windows of the dining hall. Bad weather was the norm in Brookburgh it wasn't anything to get too excited about or something that could ruin plans.I sat at our normal table with Alex and Gina as I nursed a bowl of corn flakes. "So my mother called me last night and it was a whole argument about how I needed to be there to support my sister in her future endeavors. They've all lost it I tell you." Gina slammed her issue of glamour magazine on the table.Alex looked at Gina as if she was listening intently to her family problems but I knew Alex's mind was on a different Astro plane, she was thinking about tonight."May," I heard Garret's voice and I turned to see him standing at our table. His nose had a plaster over it and his cheeks were red and his eyes watery. "Can we talk?" His voice sounded nasally making me feel bad for Levi punching him.Gina and Alex both looked at me awaiting my

Chapter 11
I opened my eyes to the sound of a melody. Someone was humming and as my eyes adjusted to the yellow light of the room I saw Robin dressed in a red knee-length, backless dress while she set a dinner table for two that had a single rose in a vase. Everything looked so small as if I'd become a giant overnight. Impossible. There was something wrapped tightly around my neck and I brought my hand up to get it off. It felt like thick rope, immediately sending me into panic and causing my body and mind to fully wake to see that we were in a barn and I was standing on a chair.I began to panic almost losing my footing and causing the chair beneath me to shake. "Oh now careful, love," Robin called, turning around to face me. She wore a bright smile while she adjusted a wine glass on the table. "Robin, what is going on?" I couldn't understand why she would do this to me. I knew we weren't the best of friends but that couldn

And as I reached to touch the monsters' stretched-out hand, he suddenly recoiled and picked his head up. "Are you sure this is the right house?" The sound of people talking seemed to scare the monsters and they disappeared in a flash.I heard footsteps come through our front door. There were three men dressed in black and one woman with silver hair. I was scared that they were monsters in disguise as well. The woman's black trench coat swept the floor with each step she took. "Little girl," she said, bending her knees until she was eye level with me, "what is your name?"I swallowed hard. "May." My voice was meek and she stood up straight."Are these people your family, May?" She questioned, getting back down to eye level with me.The silver woman was scary and I was afraid. My body shook as I nodded to answer her question. "Yes, that's my mom, dad, and brother," I stuttered.

Chapter 13
"Do it," Dallas put her arms around my shoulders, her voice was coaxing and I was tempted, "it killed your family." On a chair in front of me sat a being with their head down. They were bound in rope. "Do it, May." She put a wooden stake in my hand. "Mmm-" The person's head bobbed around lazily, "Mmaay," they struggled to speak. They picked their head up and the wooden stake fell from my hands. "Gina," I rushed towards her. I tried to pry the ropes off her and she groaned. The rope was wet and smoke wafted off her skin. "What are you doing!" Dallas roared. "She's a vampire. She is no longer your friend. Gina suddenly laughed and I turned to see her eyes were crimson and her teeth were stained with blood. "You should listen to her, May," she sounded deranged, "kill me before I kill you."

Chapter 14
I never thought I'd be in a situation where I needed to talk to Garret again. I knew I couldn't hide from him forever and that I would run into him during our classes together. But all the ill feelings I once harbored were gone. It could have been seeing his unconscious body lying in a hospital bed, the giant plaster around his head, his bandaged neck, and wrists or it could have been something else other than pity. That I was simply over it or I didn't like him as much as I wanted myself to.Levi had left to go scour the forests with Joshua to find Ophelia, leaving Alex as my bodyguard and Hannah as Gina's guard again. Hannah didn't seem to mind it even though Alex said she would take over from where Josh left off."I can't believe I feel sorry for this wanker," Alex grumbled, begrudgingly.I shook my head. A small smile formed on my face as I thought of what Gina would say seeing him lik

Chapter 15
Levi and I stood at the threshold of the bedroom door as we spied on Mia. She had fallen asleep and she looked too peaceful and adorable to disturb. Her little nose was scrunched up and her brows dipped as she released shallow breaths through those petal pink lips. This is why Elias had failed most mornings to wake her for school and asked someone else to do it instead. Watching her sleep had a feeling of comfort and ease wash over me.It didn't matter what kind of being Mia was. I still loved her and saw her as a ray of sunshine that cut through thick clouds during a storm. She was a loving and caring being that's all that mattered. "I've known this child her entire life. Fed her, offered her comfort on nights she couldn't sleep, advised her as best as I could. It doesn't matter what she is. I don't think anything can make me stop loving her." His jaw flexed as he smiled down at me.The wolves had m

Chapter 16
Physics can be defined as the science of matter, motion, and energy. Its laws are typically expressed with economy and precision in the language of mathematics– my brain felt like it was melting.  Sitting and staring at a textbook did not ensure the mind registering and understanding what it came across. Learning and understanding went together like bread and butter and I was missing my butter.  Basic science and math were beyond my comprehending, this much was clear when I reached for my calculator to ensure five plus seven was indeed twelve. I had no passion to learn or try to even understand.  I was a sponge when it came to knowledge– a good thing until a sponge absorbs too much water and then starts to drip.  I forced myself because I couldn't let Levi charm the professors into giving me more leeway with my courses. It was unethical and unfair for the rest of the students. Sucking it up and being an adult about it was h

I called Joshua but I could not just stay put. Why did Levi go after her alone. It could have been a trap. I ran all over the town through different alleyways and I reached the breaking into the forest.   The tall trees stood ominously, swaying and splintering as the wind assaulted their branches. I couldn't see anything due to a thick fog that had blanketed the forest floor. The birds distressed chirping sounded like warnings.   Animals knew when a storm was coming.    I let out a steady breath and began to move forward. "May," Joshua appeared in front of me, "are you insane," he grabbed me by the shoulders giving me a shake.   "Josh, good you here," my voice held relief, "We have to go find him," I moved to go past him and he stopped me again.   "I will find him. You should wait by the car with Alex

Chapter 18
Daphne showed me to a room and offered me a warm bath and hot meal. Both of which I refused. I wasn't looking for a bed and breakfast and I wasn't letting my guard down. Finally after a few minutes of being told to wait in a room– for my own good– Daphne emerged holding a dress. This was no random dress. The way the light danced off the silk, giving it a shimmery look was too familiar, and instantly I knew where Ophelia found the dress and why she picked it. It was the dress Levi picked out for me at the boutique. The one we bickered about. He insisted I get it and I refused because I had no where to wear it to. This was proof she had been watching us. Every time we thought she was silent, it didn't mean she wasn't there, quietly observing and waiting for the right moment. It was bone-chilling how calculated Ophelia was. What chance could we stand against someone that had us figured out and anticipated our

Chapter 19
In Brookburgh it was easy for the days to fall into a routine. Even the weather was on board with this regime of things but that did not mean the locals didn't wish for difference.   Even if that difference was one miraculous day of sunshine.   Unfortunately, today was not that day. It was gloomy with a side of rakish winds. It was also a very slow day, the seconds seemed to drag to reach that minute and the minutes were even worst because it seemed painful to wait for the next hour to pass.   Three days passed since I last saw Levi. I knew he was avoiding me and I was taking his sibling's advice. They knew him far better than I did and I could use all the advice I could get because I didn't want to give up on him.   My worst fear was not that my quest for love would be unsuccessful but it was that I had lost Levi completely. If he
