And the lies begins….

“Aren’t you going to let me in?” Her Mom said.

“Ummm, whilst scratching her head, she says.. please come in Mom”.

As her Mom walks through the front door, she glances at her daughter’s apartment with a rather disappointing look. “So who is Nathan?” She persistently asks.

“Nat…….Nathan? Oh Nathan is a friend from school. He came over with Bernice to work on a school project together through the night” Izzy says whilst avoiding eye contact with her Mom.

“Oh okay. That’s great. I thought I had missed the building because I was ringing the bell and no one responded. I had to go back down to verify the building’s number.” Her Mom responded still glancing around the apartment.

“ Oh really? I was fast asleep then. I’m sorry”. Izzy apologies.

“It’s alright. I figured since it’s pretty early. How’s Bernice by the way? It’s been forever since I saw her. The last time I did was when you both left for college. Are you both still best friends?” Mom demands.

“Of course Mom. She wouldn’t be at my place if she wasn’t”. Izzy said.

“Ding….. ding” the door bell rings again.

At this point, nothing was going to surprise Izzy anymore. She went up to the door and opened.

“Bernice? What are you doing here?” Izzy says, pushing her backwards and closing the door behind them.

“What? That’s a first! I didn’t know I needed an invitation to come see my best friend whom I always see without an invitation”. Bernice hissed.

“Ah Mom? I’ll be right back. I need to get something” she shouts out to her Mom who was touring the apartment.

“Mom? Bernice says in ecstasy. Then what the hell am I doing outside talking to you? I should be greeting Mom. You know how she gets when I’m around and don’t greet.”

“You see….. that’s the thing… Izzy whispers whilst gnashing her teeth. I kinda told her that you just left my place with Nathan.”

“You what?” Bernice raises her voice.

“Lower you voice please” Izzy says, placing her hand on Bernice’s mouth.

“Who is Nathan?” Bernice had to pry.

“That has got to be the question of the day so far”. Izzy whispers as she looks down.

“Hi loves” Madam Claudia says as she walks pass them down the hall.

“Hi Madam Claudia”. Both Izzy and Bernice replied with a smile.

Madam Claudia is one of Izzy’s neighbors.

“Who is Nathan? If I was with him this morning, then I most certainly have the right to know who the f*ck I was with. Don’t you think?” Bernice continues, slightly raising her voice, stretching her neck out towards Izzy as though she was searching for the truth in her eyes.

“Nathan is the guy I met at the bar yesterday and we kinda brought the chill here and we had quite the night”. Izzy bragged as she touched her hair.

“Ouuuu, was he handsome?” Bernice asked with her teeth all out.

“Of course. You know I don’t roll with deformed guys”. Izzy continues to brag as she rolls her eyes, taking pride in herself and her taste.

“What am I doing? Bernice asks as she hits her head. So what am I suppose to do now?”

“You just have to tell her that you forgot something here and you came to get it.” Izzy tells her.

“You owe me one” Bernice says as she opens the door.
